Car insurance due 6th sept.

I am the car owner and main driver. Got a great quote in mid august so paid online. Took the money next day.

In the mean time my thought process was:
I'm pg, not going to work next insured period and therefore can't really class myself as main driver. I just won't be driving much but DH will

So we rang up to cancel policy. Had not received any paperwork and
Policy not started yet. Got and email confirmation saying policy now cancelled on 18th august. Would be refunding full amount less £50 admin fee

Now, they are entitle to the admin fee as per FSA, don't dispute that, but after weeks and weeks waiting for the refund to hit our bank or get a cheque... Nothing!

Rang today...
Had to call back in an hour as when I mentioned refund their computer systems had gone down.... Hmmm

Rang back, passed to 3 different ppl, they had out phone number wrong on their system so had to confirm about 7 different things before they would speak to me

Then!!!
Oh yes Kay, you are due a refund, but the refund team don't do Fridays so I can't do anything today!
So I said I needed the refund obv to pay for new policy with DH as main driver, and If I had email confirmation on 18th saying I was to be refunded, why were they just sitting on my money and had not even issued it yet?

She said that it takes up to 8 weeks to issue a refund!!!

So... AIBU to be foaming that they can take payment in one day, but cannot issue a refund of said payment for 8 weeks!

8 weeks!!!! Sneaky horrible was to make interest on my money grrrrr

Now this means I wont have the refund in time to pay for my new policy so have to borrow some money from my mother

It's only for 6 days but still

I don't think it was necessary to change the policy, was it?

Why didn't you just phone them and amend the policy so that you weren't main driver?

8 weeks to issue a refund is ridiculous - there is no reason why that should be the case. 2 weeks is annoying but once you add in everything clearing and stuff been sent to banks and whatnot it is just about excusable, but 8 weeks is not.

did they warn you about this when you requested the refund?

I would get legal advice on it tbh. Try contacting consumer direct.

We were going to amend policy but price jumped up so much we got it cheaper elsewhere.
Plus when we rang to amend the phone line was so awful I didn't feel very bad about leaving them anyway. This just made it worse !
