in thinking that DH spending time with DS could involve a million things other than...

... going to fucking Burger King?

We are married, living as family etc etc etc. Every now and then (maybe every third weekend) DH takes DS aged nearly 7 out, and they go to BK.

I KNOW I am not being unreasonable, but now do I steer him into doing something else with him without it turning into a goddawful row? Just kicking the ball about in the field across our house would be an easy, cheap start.

How do I do it????????????????????

squeakytoy Sun 28-Aug-11 10:37:59

Does your son enjoy this treat? If so, then YABU.

GypsyMoth Sun 28-Aug-11 10:38:30

Give him the ball?

Why fo you fetl the need to control what they do together?

Ladymuck Sun 28-Aug-11 10:40:14

Don't.

Just don't interfere in his relationship with his son. Especially if he is doing something which they are both happy with.

Alliwantisaroomsomewhere Sun 28-Aug-11 10:40:16

smile

Point taken. IABU!

(Does the fact that I am miserable, 10 weeks pregnant and anxious about EVERYTHING excuse the fact that IABU??)

magicmummy1 Sun 28-Aug-11 10:41:42

Relax - once every few weeks won't do him a lot of harm. smile

Can you not just ask him to take a ball and have a kickaround on the other sundays? Or would that lead to a row?

rhondajean Sun 28-Aug-11 10:41:48

Maybe they like being able to sit and talk rather than running round doing things?

Are you worried about the implications of the unhealthy food being associated with a treat with his dad?

If its once every three weeks, I wouldnt be worried.

Alliwantisaroomsomewhere Sun 28-Aug-11 10:42:39

gawd... here come the tears. Told you I was miserable!

rhondajean Sun 28-Aug-11 10:46:28

Awwwww dont, it might be worth telling DH it bothers you and why, because if you are like me, if I dont it comes out in another way (I get snappy !!)

But its not worth upsetting yourself over, just enjoy the peace and quiet and have a nice cuppa. Check its okay when you are pregnant but camomile tea is really soothing.

Alliwantisaroomsomewhere Sun 28-Aug-11 10:50:06

Thanks, Rhonda. I think I should rather leave it completely today because I had such a bad night's sleep which really makes me feel crap nowadays. DH has already asked me what is wrong and he only got out of bed 45 minutes ago so best I just keep the peace!

Thanks, everyone! smile I will stop being so sanctimonious - for the time being.

joric Sun 28-Aug-11 10:55:13

If it makes you feel any better... DH has just gone out for walk with map and not asked DD if she wants to go sad
Burger King it may be but they are out with each other- you can relax! smile

DecapitatedLegoman Sun 28-Aug-11 11:03:03

Send them to BK and tell them to linger FGS, then get yourself back to bed woman! smile

defrocked Sun 28-Aug-11 11:12:30

lol the old "oh i am pregnant so thats why i am unreasonable"

that cracks me up

no love, you just want to control his choices smile

LoveBeingAtHomeOnMyOwn Sun 28-Aug-11 11:16:28

Is it cause it's bk? Is it cause you want a bk? Is it cause they never do anything else at all? Is it cause your ds has complained? Is it cause your ds eats to much junk already?

susiedaisy Sun 28-Aug-11 11:18:51

Defrocked- that's harsh

LoveBeingAtHomeOnMyOwn Sun 28-Aug-11 11:19:14

I really want a bk now sad and I get one much less often then your ds.

Alliwantisaroomsomewhere Sun 28-Aug-11 11:23:20

grin Defrocked: a big combo - not of the BK variety but of the control + emotional!

Lovebeingathome: DS loves going there, I don't particularly like it so DH and DS go together. We went out for supper last night, so there is not real need to go out again for lunch today - I worry about money all the time and more so now that I am probably going on maternity leave and I am self employed. Also DS could benefit more from a kick around with a ball because he plays lots of pc games because I let him (bad mother).

So I suppose there is a whole lot more to this than me being in a mood because DH is taking DS to BK. Not a particulary interesting AIBU and not a particularly feisty one. I usually roll over and concede defeat on these boards, anyway.

Awww, OP, have a [tea] and a [hug] and fgs go back to bed and take advantage of having a chance to rest!

Alliwantisaroomsomewhere Sun 28-Aug-11 11:42:01

They do a few other things together but they are usually sedentary activities. They are playing the Wii at the moment but I suppose at least they are doing something together.

The minute they walk out the door to do the BK thing, I will be chucking myself back into bed!

pranma Sun 28-Aug-11 14:45:58

my dh used to take my ds out occasionally-just the two of them. They went to a Wimpy bar[long ago] and always enjoyed it.Ds loved the squeezy tomatoes with ketchup in them.Dh died when ds was 16 and had been ill[MS] for years before. You know what ds's fondest memory of his dad is...those ketchup containers!Your two are building memories-let it be YAB a bit U

justcallmemummypig Sun 28-Aug-11 14:59:56

pranma, what a sad but lovely post...i'll remember that one x

pointydog Sun 28-Aug-11 15:07:24

yabu. Once a month and they both enjoy it? Fine.

Alliwantisaroomsomewhere Sun 28-Aug-11 19:33:29

Pranma, that is certainly something I will bear in mind when the two make their own decision again to do something... sad
