to wonder why the jeffing jeff you would ask people to knit pointless little hats for bottles?

There's a link on MN to an innocent smoothie campaign.

Knit a tiny pointless hat for a bottle of Innocent smoothie and they will donate money to Age UK to keep old people warm.

Why can't they knit something useful that can be donated? I don't know what, but there must be something - knit a woolly square to be added to a blanket? knit a hat for a premature baby? knit a fake breast, even.

But a small knitted hat for a fruit based refreshment? No, no, no. Not in my name.

And flay me now if I am wrong.

mental. just pointless and barking maad

Melly20MummyToPoppy Fri 19-Aug-11 21:09:26

Perhaps they will recycle them for wank-mitts?

wordsonapage Fri 19-Aug-11 21:10:26

They fit on dd s barbies

VaginaPuddleduck Fri 19-Aug-11 21:10:29

Wank mitts! Now there's an idea I can work with.

SuePurblybilt Fri 19-Aug-11 21:13:43

They are clearly for knobs. Bell-end warmers.

AfternoonDelight Fri 19-Aug-11 21:14:07

Oh come on. They are useful.

How else can I keep my poor Innocent Smoothies warm? They may get cold in the fridge.

People who make these thought of it!

LynetteScavo Fri 19-Aug-11 21:26:12

But, these hats make me buy innocent smoothies. I just can't resist them, and neither can the DC...so that's 4 more smoothies sold every time we go to Sainsburys.

Innocent aren't stupid....they know these hats up sales, and at the same time they donate to age concern. Good all round.

(And our action men and barbies all have their own bobble hats, and look very fetching. smile)

We went to my parents' at the weekend and my mum is on a one-woman mission to give every Innocent Smoothie in the country a hat, I think. She's knitted loads of them!

I must admit that we do usually buy several hatted little bottles each Autum. The dds used to use them as Barbie or cuddly toy hats; now they are teenagers they just pin them on their noticeboards, I think.

I,m sure they,re passed on for prem babies

And they,re great for Easter egg comps !

naturalbaby Fri 19-Aug-11 21:31:08

yabu, don't be such a misery guts. how amazing do the rows of bottles with funky hats look on the shelf?!? my 2yr old thinks they're great, can't wait to stock up this year.

VaginaPuddleduck Fri 19-Aug-11 21:32:05

I just can't get over a corporation inciting people to knit for charity and the end product being something that's given away to consumers. Innocent could donate to Age UK ANYWAY, or get people to knit something that can be donated for good.

Knitting away to boost the profits of Innocent smoothies. what planet are people on?

I would stop buying their smoothies and switch to the sainsburys version if that had two portions of fruit in it instead of one because i am a lazy arse who hates cutting fruit up for the dc

I was just coming on to say about Lisa's Stars - they are always on the lookout for people to knit for them.

Lisa is just a truly amazing lady who is managing to make something positive come out of horrendous personal tragedy.

Innocent should be bloody ashamed of themselves.

Tortington Fri 19-Aug-11 21:44:33

your right, why dont they go get geoffed with their geoffing hats

next thing you know there will be jumpers on geoffing teapots the geoffers

lifechanger Fri 19-Aug-11 21:45:19

What's an angel baby?

deemented Fri 19-Aug-11 21:47:23

lifechanger - A baby who has been born too soon to be able to live.

Lisa's stars aim to clothe babies as young as 14 weeks gestation.

DementedHousewife Fri 19-Aug-11 21:47:43

Babies who are born too early to survive or still born.

LynetteScavo Fri 19-Aug-11 21:47:47

But it's a gimmick.....if you don't want to knit these hats, then don't(I certainly won't be!), but they are shouting; "we will donate to Help The Aged" if you buy us!"

It's hard to make old people seem fun and funky, and innocent have manged to do that.

VaginaPuddleduck Fri 19-Aug-11 21:56:45

I should clarify lynette, I wasn't seeking anybodies permission to not knit a hat, but thank you for trying to relieve me of the responsibility grin

Good point about making old people look funky though, shame that's what it takes though.

MmeLindor. Fri 19-Aug-11 22:00:11

I don't get it.

I don't live in UK and have never seen the ad, am off to search.

But I agree that it is silly. If they are going to get folk to knit, why can they not knit something that can be used?

rushofbloodtothefeet Fri 19-Aug-11 22:01:44

How the very Jeff have I managed to miss rows of bobble-hatted smoothie bottles in the supermarkets????????? Oh My!

Outraged for you though OP, it does sound bizzare. Maybe they could be donated as nipple warmers/washable breast pads?

lifechanger Fri 19-Aug-11 22:02:13

I never quite understood egg cosies. I mean, you boil and egg, making your toast soldiers at the same time. Butter said soldiers, place egg in egg cup, cut top off egg, eat.

When do you use the cosy?
