I didn't post in chat, it was just general questions as i'd moved to a new area and needed help (so YES was probably really boring) and also looking for some mums to chat with in the area. AIBU seems to be when you need to have a bit of a moan or question about something but couldn't find anything to feel was unreasonable in fact had to use my neighbours as they were my only source of a moan lol.

I don't know why I'm replying really, normally the first sign of a "LOL" leaves me longing for an excommunication.

But actually, why do you think your threads are so particularly worthy of comment?

I think I have a new thread coming up AIBU for using LOL ???? Grin Grin but point proven as this was for fun and to see if it was replied to which it was :)

Don't waste the bandwidth on an "AIBU for using LOL?" thread. That particular verdict came in long, long ago.

Sausagesarenottheonlyfruit · 11/08/2011 16:19

Do you actually laugh out loud every time you type "lol"?

Report
ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 11/08/2011 16:20

LOL ??!

Report
Pandemoniaa · 11/08/2011 16:23

Hopefully yes. That has to be the only explanation for the use of this pointless, stupid, irritating and so often wildly inappropriate acronym.

Although it has to be said that clearly, people are not rolling on the floor laughing their arses off at the time of typing that particular abomination. Unless their laughed-off arse has walked over to the keyboard and taken over. Which, from the quality of the comment so often posted, one could easily imagine.

Not for everyone Pandemoniaa, I'm partial to a bit of a 'I really did fucking LOL at that', unless you're suggesting the OP's inferior somehow for using a widely used acronym?

I daren't go into the other sections of MN shoewoman, if I did venture out of AIBU very often I'd never get anything done Grin

I sometimes use LOL Blush.......... but only if I actually did laugh out loud (which if not unknown on here) and can't be bothered typing "hahahahhaha".

Report
Salmotrutta · 11/08/2011 16:29

AND I used it today! So there!

DeWe · 11/08/2011 16:31

Maybe you should say "LIH" Laugh in head?

AgentZigzag · 11/08/2011 16:32

I'm lolling (and a bit of inward grubby roffling) at your uptight pedantic post Pandemoniaa.

What's the difference between AIBU as an acronym, and LOL?

Or is LOL not as exclusive as AIBU? Or you think it's only used by people who use hunz/hugz as well?

Report
Salmotrutta · 11/08/2011 16:33

Wouldn't that just be a smile?

Report
Salmotrutta · 11/08/2011 16:34

Sorry that was a question to DeWe.

Report
Pandemoniaa · 11/08/2011 16:35

Today, I am mainly being pedantic.
Laughs, hollowly, out loud.

For years I thought lol was 'lots of love'. It gave me a very rose-tinted view of web forums Grin

Otherwise YABU. I post in parenting, S&B and chat and only very rarely in aibu and I always get responses. What were you posting to be so roundly ignored?

(lol to all you mumsnetters!)

If you're posting stuff about local area on a busy forum such as chat, the chances are the first few people to see it won't live in that area, won't reply to it, will post on other topics and it gets pushed down the board. You're better off posting stuff about local area in a more slow moving forum such as "Days Out" or "Travel/UK" or, indeed, your local section.

OP Chat moves extremely quickly especially at certain peak times.

PMSL is far worse. There must be many a piss smelling MNetter on the school run at the rate they PthemSL.

Pandemoniaa, I genuinely laughed out loud at that, but am now too self-conscious to type "lol". Oh the conniptions!

Thing is there's a perfectly good link at the top of the page to all the acronyms for newbies, but does anyone use it? Do they hell!
They just leave plaintive little posts saying, 'what does MiL mean?'

Read the frikkin page furniture people.
