AIBU?

to think that Harriet Harman's take on the riots shows her to be insane?

Ms Harman said the causes were "very complex" and that explaining them were for another day, but went on: "There is a sense that young people feel they are not being listened to. That is not to justify violence. But when you've got the trebling of tuition fees, they should think again about that.

Tuition fees! She makes those old crusty high-court judges seem thoroughly with-it.

IMO Harriet Harperson is insane and should have been sectioned years ago.

The only possible reason Harpy is allowed to remain at large is to serve 'as a warning to us all' of the dangers of being so far up yourself that you completely lose touch with reality.

She was unusually and disappointingly naive on Newsnight last night.

If you polled 100 looters, I wonder how many would cite tuition fees as their motivation?

How can an MP spout such garbage? She should resign. Her views are an insult to her constituents.

Awful to see her being successfully mauled my Michael Gove of all people.

I think that she's read this particualr situation wrong, I must say. Trying to score political points (particularly such transparently baseless ones) at this point is in bad taste at the very least. Open goal for Gove and (unusually for a Coalition minister) he didn't miss.

It's interesting to compare the line that she and Ken Livingstone have taken to the one that Ed Miliband, Diane Abbott and Yvette Cooper (who I thought was particularly good on the Radio yesterday evening) have taken.

The theft of i-pods by looters is directly related to the reduction in classical archaeology degree places. Discuss.

Harriet Harman, allegedly, is a bleeding idiot. God only knows why she's still got a job.

Yes they are selling what they looted to pay for uni Confused

So the looters are stocking up with goodies they can fence to finance their place at college/uni? Hmm

These kids are bored, bored, bored, whilst politicians went on fancy hols these kids had nothing, they see greedy politicians and bankers looting the country and they want nice trainers and watches too, so they grab em just like those in charge. Constant money being sent abroad and not enough ploughed into our cities or younger generation. What has the freaking olympics got to give those kids, they couldnt even get a ticket!

She has a good point though - A lot of them were so hoping to go to The University of Bloody Pointless to do Macdonald's Studies and Twatology and now they can't afford the fees unless they loot and pillage places like Curry's and Footlocker! Wink

HH is a twat. Always has been. Always will...

Yes, I see an argument there, but that's not what Harriet Harman said.

I'm bored Isla...think I'll just pop down to the corner shop and ramraid it for a laugh...Hmm

Yes, the Harpy can at least guarantee a bit of entertainment..! Grin

Thats one of the things I find most off putting with some of the leftie Mp's
'political point scoring at every opportunity' is their mantra... whilst never, ever offering any kind of alternative...

Even the milipede is talking more sense on this issue [gulp]

Exactly. A few shops looted aint exactly the same as the catastrophe the labour party and bankers made of the country.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 10/08/2011 17:25

Good god - boredom as an excuse for robbery. Sounds like a Carol Ann Duffy poem and not at all like any kind of excuse - can't believe you're justifying their behaviour.

I like the Milipede.

Still a bit nasal, though, bless him, after his op.

The thing is they are bored and they will ramraid shops, but it aint a laugh, its the way the country is going at the moment, everyone out for themselves.

Report
petitepeach · 10/08/2011 17:31

Sorry they are not Bored for crying out loud!
As someone else said 'Ooooh feel a bit Bored think I will go out and burn a few shops out steal some sports gear and mug anyone vunerable who gets in my way' Hmm
There isn't an excuse in the world for them; and if anybody thinks there is then God help us all......

LineRunner · 10/08/2011 17:32

Don't be daft. 'Everyone' is not out for themselves.

Inequalities have increased and that is a serious issue which needs focus not mental broad-brush generalisations.
