AIBU?

To be fed up with *more* price hikes!

I've just had an email from Atlantic informing me that electrcitiy prices are going up by 11% and gas by 18%.

With increased pension, job cuts, child benefit/tax credits disappearing and threats of redundancy-nobody will have any money left :(

Does anyone have an energy provider that won't hike its prices massively; or I suppose they are all the same :(

There will be an element of all companies raising prices at roughly the same time. However, there are some offering capped or fixed price deals. If you can switch to one of them now, you may find you are cushioned a little from subsequent increases.

On a more general level... yes, things are tough for a lot of us at the moment. The world is a very different place to where it was the first 10 years of this century. We have to be cannier with our money, more demanding as consumers and not as wasteful as we've been in the past. If you've got debts it's wise to pay them down rather than add to them. If you've got anything spare, save it rather than spend it.

Yes we've just switched to edf, just in the nick of time - they hiked their prices by 20% the next day Shock

If you can switch to one that hasn't hiked yet, and fix your prices, I would do.

they're all increasign their prices by that much (18-20%) in the next few weeks.

The British gas one was weird, they sent us a form thing asking us to sign and return it if we didn't want our prices going up Hmm

maybe we should all riot and bash our electric meters up :)

I think most of them have raised prices - we are with Scottish Hydro and theirs are going up in September: 18% for gas and 11% for electric. I am tied in until December though so will shop around after that as we have good discounts at the moment.

I'm in the process of moving from Southern to edf. I've gone for one that is price fixed until Sept next year. The companies all seem to be raising their prices every 6 months so hopefully the price fix will work in our favour.

It is irritating how they keep increasing prices to 'cover the rising cost of the fuels', then a few months later record 'record profits'.

With Southern and I understood that the leccy will rise by 18%, and the gas by 11% - But to know what that actually means would mean understanding how much each unit is in the first place. The leaflet they sent me when I enquired about it made NO SENSE. The only thing it showed was that they seem to charge more in my region than in most of the others. Hmm.

All the ones we looked at changing to were increasing the price anyway. so the advert says fix the price now for 12 months, but the price you are fixing it at is say 12% above what they currently charge.

We get charged more for our gas and electric, as we are supposedly wealthier in this part of the country!!!!!

Did you get the 12 bottles of wine deal 26?

I have been with Ebico for both Gas "Equigas" and Elec "Equipower" for some time now - they're non-profit and charge everyone the same regardless of payment method ( I guess that makes them a better deal if you're on a pre-pay meter but they seem generally competitive).
Anyway my point is their track record is very good for keeping prices stable.

Tis terrible - especially when you read about profits the energy companies have made Angry

We fixed until next year too. Only because my dh is savvy with these things. I feel really sorry for older people as they are less likely to access the best deals on the internet.

Curious how every company has put gas up by 18% and electricity up by 11%. How coincidental Hmm.

British Gas were worse as theirs are going up by 18% for gas and 16% for electricity
