AIBU?

to think that the way Dev and Sunita have treated Amber in Corrie is awful?

Surely most students come home for at least some time during the holidays, particularly the summer which is around 3 months long? I know in soapland characters go off to uni never to be seen again, but Sunita in particular has acted as though they are giving her the earth just by giving her a camp bed in what should be her own home, and constantly hints that she wants to get rid of her asap. I couldn't believe how horrible she was being to her!

Is this just me?

you know it's not real though, right? And there is a section about TV.

Yes I know it's not real, but it is supposed to reflect real life in some capacity

I kind of meant wouldn't it be awful if this was happening to some students in real life, but it doesn't matter

I don't know. When I went to uni my mum moved my brother into my old room and used his room as a music room. I wasn't invited to return home. So it is reflective of real life in some capacity. Not all students are welcomed home in the holidays!

Besides, she isn't a student at home from holidays, she's been kicked out and she is the reason Dev and Sunita split up in the first place. Not that I watch it or anything... Blush So I'm not surprised Sunita isn't pleased to see her!

Also, Dev and Sunita had to downsize and their new place simply doesn't have the space for her. And her main residence when school age was her mother, not Dev.

Exactly, Edith. And they have twins (although you could be forgiven for forgetting about them since we never see them...)

I can't believe I'm having this conversation as if they were real, but Dev and Sunita split up because Dev didn't tell her about him having a bunch of kids with loads of different women. It is not the fault of one of those children. Mind you it's been a long time since I did more than dip into the soaps, so maybe they've split up again since, in which case ignore me.

When my DC go to university, they will still be welcome to come home whenever they want. I think it is pretty cold and heartless to think that their home stops being their home the minute they get a room in a shared house or hall of residence.

She's a pain in the arse. Where's her mother? Yet another soap kid doesn't get any knd of education beyond school. Now, that does annoy me!!!

biddysmama: only for a while. Dev didn't even know she existed until she was nearly 16, and she'd been around for about a year before she moved in for about 2 years until she went to university. I don't think she'd been back home since (2 years?)

did her mum move away?

Karma is right, Sunita got the hump with Dev because she found out about his other kids when Amber pitched up. Amber had decided she wanted to live with her father, which she did. She then went to uni with the intention, presumably, of coming back to her father's home in the holidays.

Send an email to the scriptwriters. They dream up this tosh fantasy life that isn't supposed to be confused with real life.
