I have heard that this current British Gas price rise is actually unnecessary, that other providers are to follow suit end of August. If it is unnecessary then why are they getting away with ripping us all off?

They do it because they can! In March they will fly the flags reducing the price by a measly sum to try to fool people that they are being good to us. Same as it ever was Sad

@madhattershouse, it does seem as if we are being totally fooled, and yes agree, they do it because they can.

Call to arms mumsnetters???

It's bloody unnecessary! The oil price has dropped significantly which should mean the gas utility price should follow, they are greedy tossers. I want to say vote with your feet but it's a cartel and they will all follow suit.

Call to arms s a great idea, can we get a campaign off the ground?

@AI0uiseG: here! here!
I'm sick of the half-truth justifying bull-crap they use to treat ordinary people in this way. Plus WTF are ofgem doing? WTF is the point of their existence?

I'll find some wholesale energy prices in the morning and we can start our case.

I really don't know how some people/families are going to cope with an 18% increase....especially if we have another long, cold winter, like we did 2010/2011....with prolongued widespread snow and ice from November.

I felt sick when I heard about this. We are ok financially so this won't affect us badly but some people are really going to suffer - I really worry about the elderly on fixed incomes.

I signed up to BG recently - all the reasonable rates tied me in for a year and I would have to pay £100 to vote with my feet and move. And as you say - all the others will follow suit.

I guess this was a good week to announce it as the press are all busy on a 'bigger' story

How many millions of pounds have they made in profits this year? They are screwing people, it's price fixing because all of them have us over a barrel.

Thank you everyone. I'm very busy out with DD and DH today - you know how it is! But will start thinking a bit more strategically and get back.
Al0uiseG: good idea :) I think sharing personal stories...how this is going to realistically impact/effect us and other people is a really good idea. Perhaps that could be the start of a new thread? Can anyone start this? I know Age concern are concerned, maybe as mumsnetters we could campaign to join with them and others to ask for a real true facts and figures and blow a hole in their lame justifications Got to go but get on the case guys and will touch base later Wink
