Going to watch DS perform in a concert tonight to which MIL has been invited, starts at 7pm, she lives 20 minutes away. At 3pm whilst cleaning the kitchen I hear key in door, its her, letting herself in (she had key ICE from when DC were small), I say "oh, was the doorbell not working!". She then procedes to look at all DH birthday cards & our anniversary cards (both yesterday), says nothing about our anniversary but then again never has. Tells my DD (13 and getting to that weight concious stage) to stop eating so many cakes, laughs when I shh her andwhisper that one of her friends has an eating problem that that didn't happen in her day. To top it off, whilst I was eating piece of toast (missed lunch today) she start telling me about her stomach troubles, needing a camera and doing "both at the same time" when on the loo. (Not an image I need to have, thank you).
Sorry, needed to get that out.

Put a chain on the door - that's what we did, brought me alot of pleasure when they ILs tried to open the door and couldn't get through 8am one Saturday morning!

Forgot to say we used the excuse that it was for extra security measures after watching crimewatch one night (should you need an excuse that is!), now they ring the door bell like everyone else.

The eating comments to your DD also need to stop.

Agree that you should ask her for the key back, or change locks or whatever, but YABU for expecting her to remember your anniversary, why should she, it was your wedding and not hers!

YABU also for minding her talking about her health issues, maybe she is struggling and wants to talk about stuff.

Sure, it's all annoying, but nothing compared to many MIL threads on here!

i don't think its unreasonable to atleast hope for a verbal Happy Anniversary especially when shes nosied through the cards from my side of the family.
Jasminder I like your idea, for fecks sake I could have been dancing in the buff round the kitchen for all she knew.

I don't expect my IL's to remember our Anniversary ( jeez we usually forget it) and Grandparents do seem to have a knack of saying the most inappropriate and insensitive to kids but the key thing needs to be sorted and pronto....personally I would change the locks. Wink

Def change the locks! I have also taken to hiding all post, personal cards etc. As whatever is lying around gets picked up and read by PiL and my own parents!

They wander into my baby's room every time they're here to look and act amazed each time (although nothing has changed since the week before!). Maybe I should do that to their bedroom next time we visit. What would your MiL do if you copied her behaviour?

dont think my inlaws ever mentioned our anniversary in 30 years of marriage Grin

wouldnt care for them having a key though

the rest of it is inconsequential imo :)
