AIBU?

...to have an attack of the low confidence blues....

I have a big event to go to tomorrow - I mean big. I am usually in wellies, asleep in bed or going on hospital visits. I don't do the glamour bit.

I have bought a dress (a dress - me!) and even a thing called a clutch bag. (wtf - I can't get sandwiches in it) I have dyed a few grey hairs away, even had my wonky hair cut.....good God, I even bought tooth whitening stuff.

But still, my stomach turns over. I really feel that I am too ugly for this, too lacking in.....whatever it is that sparkly people have.

I feel dull, a bit poorly and just as if I want to hide away. Any tips to make me feel like one million dollars (or two)?

put some really funky music on while you're getting ready. It always works for me. I'm sure you'll have a great time.

You are NOT too ugly for this! Enjoy yourself getting ready like piggy says, put a few tunes on, maybe a glass of wine. I struggle sometimes too, and if I feel the panic rising I just have to give myself a mental slap and say "Fuck it, I don't have to look at me!" :) Good luck and enjoy yourself x

To ugly???? are you joking or what?? go and have fun... if you are confident you will look confident and that is attractive.

I bet you're not ugly at all. But start with a long bath, use a face scrub and a conditioning hair mask, maybe have a glass of wine. Do you wear make up? I'd recommend mascara, a bit of blusher (cream or liquid stain looks more natural than powder) and tinted lip balm at least. A bit of face powder to mop up shine if you need it. Make sure your nails are neat and your hands moisturised. Et voila :)

i bet you'll look lovely and you'll feel great

failing that a glass of wine before you go often helps!!

"Fuck it, I don't have to look at me!" I want that as a t-shirt, fan!

I need a bath - I'm smelly as well! (Only kidding)

I used to hide behind very long lashes - but part of the top ones have fallen out wih chemo/radiotherapy. So my daughter will be sticking false ones on - if they will stick.

All such great advice. Thank you. XX

If your daughter has the skills for the false eyelashes she will be a dab hand at other makeup and maybe hair too. Let her loose!

Download "Can you feel it" by the Jacksons (or is it the Jackson five?) Dance your blues away!!!!

My rule for going out is I will like it when I get there and hey, if I dont I can leave when I want.

You ever heard a man talk to himself in the mirror? You could become an honorary bloke. Start with a 'hello gorgeous! Wow you really are something else!'

Hold head up, stand up straight, shoulders back and you'll look a million dollars x

Well I am back...really exhausted but happy that I achieved something by going. I felt OK and managed to use a lot of your tips to summon up courage, walking in a huge party with lots of glam people. Later in the evening, I was approached by a man who told me I was 'The most interesting looking person in the room.' A little ego boost.

So thanks again. I will be in bed for most of today but it was worth it.

yes, it can happen to anyone . Good luck with it. I usually get creative and do a bit of writing or invent some jokes

Bless you! Fantastic news that you had fun. I think that everyone has a touch of nerves before a big event, especially if you're wearing something that you're not used to, but I bet that you looked great! I'm not sure about the rest of you but as soon as I've got my make up done for a big night out I feel loads better! Its nice to take lots of time to relax getting ready and I love the tip about putting some music on! I always love putting a bit of Gaga or Beyonce on before getting ready for a night out - some happy and confident songs that will fill you with beans :)
