I know it is all my own fault for being on Facebook, I do, I do - but it still makes me irrationally demented when I log in to nose at pictures of exes and people I went to school with catch up with true friends and family and every single status is something like, "Takeaway pizza? Don't mind if I do," "Go to the pub? Oh, go on then," "Night out while kids at mum's? Don't mind if I do," "Kings of Leon? Oh go on then." Why do I find this so annoying? I have many other more worrying and urgent problems to occupy my mind - why do I choose to torture myself repeatedly re-reading these annoying updates?

Just to clarify, it is the structure of the sentence that I find annoying; I have no problem with pizza, or nights out, or Kings of Leon for that matter. Right now, I am at risk of redundancy and put the computer on to look for jobs; instead here I am winding myself up about it yet more by starting a thread about it. I'm sure it's something to do with Facebook, and the way it makes you talk about yourself in the third person (and gives you an over-inflated sense of self - it was my birthday a few weeks ago, I got loads of birthday messages from people I swear I don't even fucking know, and found myself updating them to assure them I was indeed having anice birthday, and to thank them all for their kind messages, like I was the fucking Queen or something.)

Seriously I think you need to log off and make a nice cup of tea Grin

And if you have people on your friend list that you swear you don't know, what's the point in that?

I fully understand what you mean about annoying sentence structure! I have had to stop reading novels when the writer says "People looked at her for she was a blah blah blah". That use of the word "for" annoys the living crap out of me. "For she knew how to wind up her readers....."

I hate when people show off via their status updates, but try not to be obvious about it. They make it look informative like 'off to London today' or 'booked X for half term holidays' and it's blatantly just done so people fawn all over the oh so interesting lives these people lead.

And don't get me started on 'gawjuss'. Boak.

I sort of know what you mean.
I have a few friends who write things like:
'so-and-so could be feeling happy today'
I mean, why 'could'?!
Are you feeling happy or not?!
Grrr.

FB statuses that piss me off include:

'I'm so fucking angry now!!' Someone then replies - 'What's wrong?' Reply - 'I'll inbox you.'

The boasting ones which detail every item of clothing bought, how obscenely expensive their DC's taste is, every holiday booked, every item bought for the house, all out of most people's price range.

The statuses that say nothing about the person whose FB it is, only boring details about their DC and what they've been up to. It's like having FB for your DC but in your name.

The FB statuses about 'my baby boy' 'my baby girl' when the DC in question are not babies, in fact they are usually teens. Why do parents do that?
One friend tags her DS in her statuses, referring to him as her 'baby boy' and he's almost 18. Confused Not sure what he thinks of this especially when it's on his FB page too, but she refers to him as her baby boy in RL too and infront of his friends. Another friend refers to her DD as her baby girl, to tell everyone DD is 7 next week. Not a baby then.

The text speak statuses.

Urgh, I have one friend who's studying in a different county. He moans about his home county when he's here, and his university county when he's there. Every other fucking status...

Another one posts continual reviews of films, despite, it seems, knowing nothing about the subject... She seems to limit it to script and soundtrack, yet acts like the damn fucking expert. She hated it when I pointed out her defiinition of what made an indie film was correct in the common sense, but not in the industrial sense... Grin Sorry, it had to happen some time.

I quite enjoy nosing on fb, but one friend did post pictures of every foodstuff his dc ate in her first month of weaning. I guess I can't blame someone for having a baby and wanting to share their joy but a daily update with several pictures was a bit too much for me.

I think I've done that once. 'DS at GP's, night out once in a blue moon? Hell fucking yes' or something.

tis the nature of FB Im afraid.

Better than the teacher on my friends list who was whinging about lesson plans, but complaining they have to be more detailed than usual because the students are deaf. She deserves a flaming.. grr.

NO its the baby status that make me want to stab out eyes.

"Jayden, mummy loves you sooooooooooo much!" Child in question is 3 months old and unlikely to be on FB very often.

Or ** is just here gazing at her little man I just can't take my eyes of him!" Well except to Facebook anyway.

Also the ones where theyt are having such an awesome time that they actually stopped what they were doing to upload photos and update you.

"LolaRennt is having wicked sex with DH right now. LOL. "

Why don't you just hide all posts by annoying people?

Report
SuePurblybilt · 12/06/2011 10:56

I hate FB and Twatter, tis no secret. It's something about the arrogance of the posts compared to - for example - a blog. In essence they're the same thing - someone assuming that the interworld in general wants to know about their lives. For some reason, blogs don't bug me while the other two give me the itchy reds. I think you may have the reason OP - it's something to do with the wording.

BodyOfEeyore has the right way to deal with it, you soon learn who is the annoying people and then just hide them!!
I hid the ones that would have their status's things like "Bitch" or "OMG so not cool what she just did" etc, obviously trying to get people to ask what/who theyre talking about so they can either launch into a full on story, or (even more annoyingly) say "oh never mind, its private " >.

I have a friend who ends his every status update with "luv u girlfriends name so much 4 eva xoxoxo"

Even if his status update was about brussell sprouts he would still declare his undying love at the end of it.

Tis very, very annoying.

Mmm I have to say the only statuses I get Hmm at are the

X thinks some people should have better things to do in their life than GET INVOLVED IN SOMEONE ELSES BUSINESS. What a cow. GRRRR

followed by a load of friends who can tell whether they are "in" or "out" by whether they post "ooh I know what a bitch" or "what's going on hun can I help???"

I find this attitude towards Facebook so interesting. If you find it annoying, if you hate reading wanky updates, your options are many and various. Don't sign up. Delete your account. Hide the news feed of annoying people. Don't accept annoying people as friends in the first place.

I don't ring your doorbell and insist you look at pictures of my good times. If you don't like what I am doing or saying, er, don't look at my page then. I simply don't understand this cross, smiley attitude when you are making a choice to view then making a choice to get cross. Weird.

LOL at these. (sorry, do we hate LOL too?)

The one that made me nearly grind my teeth out was:

"X is sick of certain people using Facebook to make passive-aggressive digs at people. Why can't people just speak up when they have a problem?"

Comment: "U r right hun, why can't people just say honestly what they mean?"
Comment: "Exactly! Why don't people just say who they have a problem with"
Comment: "You are SO right! I can't stand people who just drop hints! xx"
etc etc.

AAAARGH!!!
Thanks for letting me share :)
