To worry a bit about wi-fi radiation

I've just read an article in one of those free family listings magazines about wi-fi and mobile phones and how they give off dangerous levels of radiation, DH says I'm being ridiculous but I can't help being a bit worried... I work on my computer and often hold my baby while working.. AIBU to be worried?!

I worry about this too so YANBU but don't think you can do anything about it as there are so many signals around anyway. We can pick up at least 5 other Wi-fi signals from our computer. I did read some expert saying he wouldn't have one in his house though

I've read somewhere that it's best not to have your laptop on your actual lap - it's the receiver bit (?), you know like the aerial bit on the mobiles. that's the dodgiest. (Apparently mobiles where safer when we used to pull the aerial out away from the side of our heads, but now they're built into the phone.
Also, mobiles not recommended for young children because of their thinner skulls.
That's nothing scientifically proven. Just that they don't know. Yet.

I guess we'll all find out in time when these things have been used for longer.

The west coaost of the USA is already being contaminated and it should be in the UK within a week
Do you remember Chernoble? A huge area of Europe was affected after only a few days and we didnt have the jet stream to spread the radiation further afield

YABU - those kind of free family listings mags are at the mercy of whatever woo-practioners send the editors their garbage. Our local one has been full of some outrageously misleading articles, generally poorly sourced/referenced but with all the authority of an 'expert opinion' given to it. Normally if you look very closely you'll find an advert buried further on for something to support the crap they're pushing...

My Dad (nuclear scientist who worked on the fallout from chernobyl, analysed radioactive samples, travelled all over the UK to take said samples) said that we will very likely see effects of any fallout from Japan over the UK. Not scaremongering as the effects are likely to be minimal, but just wanted to point out your wrongness

The levels of radiation will likely increase. The levels will most likely not be more significant that living in Cornwall.

Everybody gets terrified as soon as anybody mentioned radiation. Many people don't realise that a small amount of radiation is normal, and a slight increase in radiation can also be normal.
