AIBU?

To wonder why people boycott Nike?

It's one of those things I hear people drop in every once in a while in RL and on MN.

From what I understand Nike have worked pretty hard at sorting out labour conditions in their supply chains and are more transparent than most about their sourcing( they publish the names and locations of the factories they source from for example).

Just wonder why people still boycott them?

(I don't work for Nike, honest...)

Sorry but googling it comes up with reams and reams of explanations!

Dizzeelizzee yeah I know....a lot of the links are very old though, and fairly obscure.

I was asking the opinion of people on here who are still boycotting.

If people are boycotting, not unreasonable to ask them why surely...

This is fairly recent. It's about Nike choosing to sign a sponsorship deal with an American sportsman who has served prison time for running a dog fighting ring.

I saw that narkypuffin but I don't think that's why mainly UK MNers and people in the playground would be boycotting Nike.

Maybe I'm just wrong and there aren't that many people boycotting them.

They're better than they were on worker rights but still a long way from decent. Maybe it's that.

I didn't know I had to boycott Nike as well

I don't boycott them. All compn aies are the fucking same these days.

There was something in the paper a few years ago about children in Asia stitching leather footballs together for adidas for 50p a day.

Do enough digging with any company and you'll find something.

Don't they still sponsor that abhorrent little man Tiger Woods?

That'll be enough for me.

Surely JFGI could be used for 99% of the questions asked on this entire site...kinda misses the point, non?

Holly, yup. You could answer JFGI or 'you're/I'm entitled to your own opinion' to just about anything, but it would make for a load of short and boring threads (like this one...Grin)

I should of phrased my question as 'why do some MNers boycott Nike?' though I suppose.

Life is not as black & white as mn/aibu would have you believe. I recently interviewed with Nike and they have "Lactation stations" on site. That would make half of mn involuntarily orgasm.

AlpinePony that's great. I can see some of the posters being all conflicted at that information!

Dizzeelizzee JFGI has it's place and I've seen plenty of posters over the years who ask gazillions of inane questions which make you want to scream but in reality forums would be pretty dead if people googled everything instead of asking. Sometimes it more about human interaction and a conversation of sorts rather than just getting the information.
