Skin Prick Test Results

DS went for skin prick tests today, last years bloods showed >100 for milk, >80 for egg and 9 for peanut. Seeing as he's 8 now and his last reaction was over 4 years ago I had a sneaking hope he might at least test negative for egg.

5mm wheal for milk, 6mm for egg and 9mm for peanut.

Oh well, at least we're now pretty sure he's allergic to nuts - he's never been near one, we were always told to avoid them 'just in case'. Just as well!

I'm fairly sure the wheal for milk is smaller than last time, I forgot to ask the consultant. Is it worth checking, would a smaller wheal be any indication he might (oh please!) be starting to grow out of it, does anyone know?

Lulu, I am so sorry, that must have been a hell of a shock. I think it is worth checking with the consultant and getting his expert point of view. How did they leave it with you? Are they doing bloods now to check his Ige?

I have DD3s peanut test on Monday and I am fricking terrified.

You must be doing an excellent job for him not to have had any reactions with such a broad spectrum of front line food allergies. What support are you getting?

Smaller wheal usually considered to indicate outgrowing but with a blood test that high wouldn't get too hopeful - sorry.

Thanks for your answers. It's kind of you to say that BBF but I did make a few mistakes when he was younger so I'm very cautious now, I never want to use an epipen again! They've left it that we check again in 2 years, hopefully just before he has to go to middle school.

The reason I was a little hopeful is that some of the jars of food we used to feed him had skimmed milk in, which he didn't seem to react to, we didn't get an anaphylactic reaction until he'd had formula a few times. I'd really like to find out about desensitisation, but I have no idea whether I'd need to do that through my consultant or if I could contact Dr Clark myself. Something else I should have asked!

LuLu - I am rushed mad here tonight with a teenage sleepover, stroppy child who's sleepover it is not and a toddler over excited. However, would love to talk to you about desensitization if you like?

Most likely best to email me, mellie and min at aol dot com

Sorry to hear this, it's really disappointing when you get your hopes up.

DS's wheal in reaction to lentils was barely visible and much smaller than last time and they said that meant he was likely to outgrow the le ntil allergy.

Thanks so much BBF, will email you, no rush as we're all over the place this weekend.

And thanks trixy, it's always good to hear positive stories. I try not to get my hopes up but I'm only human! People with anxiety problems really shouldn't have kids...
