stress-related eczema?

Our 1 year old (ooh - feels odd saying that as he only turned 1 last week!) developed eczema recently but we've more or less got it under control by switching to goats milk. However we've noticed it tends to flare up on a Thursday and Friday - the 2 days he goes to nursery.

He's only been going for a few months and cries a lot when I leave him, although they say he soon calms down and is fine - eats well but doesn't sleep as well as he does at home.

Sooooo, I was wondering if eczema can be stress-related and flare up if someone's not 100% calm/happy? I can't take him out of nursery, so not looking for an excuse to do that, just interested if anyone else has found this?

DH has developed eczema over the past 12 months, his definitely flares up when he is stressed or if he's tired/under the weather.

YG - sorry to hear about your dd... Thanks for your replies - I hadn't realised this could happen, and ds definitely doesn't get as much down time at nursery, but by the end of today it'll have probably more or less disappeared - until next Thursday... At least he only goes 2 days a week I suppose, although I think the nursery staff don't believe me when I tell them it's fine throughout the rest of the week.

Yes although mine isn't caused by stress, it definitely flares up with stress or tiredness.

Do you supply the nursery with cream to put on it?
Maybe it could be worth you supplying a moisturising cream to apply once or twice a day to give it a helping hand.

Could be stress, it could also be that he is coming into contact with something that irritates him. For my ds it was PVA glue as it contains latex, which he is allergic to and I didn't realise it was an ingredient.

Also what sort of heating do they have - it could be that. It could be that he gets overheated there and they don't remove clothes. It could be that some idiot is feeding him milk - it happens believe me. Does he sleep on sheets that have been washed in a washing powder that irritates him.

Yes it could be stress but I believe that you should question closely what he does at nursery and whether there could be a trigger.

ds1 has terrible eczema which flares up when stressed or excited (christmas is particularly bad and he never seems stressed then!). if he seems happy it might be excitement related, not stress

Very interested dot1 to read your message as we have the same situation with our 2.5yr old son, except it is with asthma. He gets asthma attacks when at nursery and not elsewhere. He can do a morning at nursery but no more than that. He does suffer from asthma and has medication but is under control , except at nursery.

We are now having to take him out of nursery and return him to a childminder's. Asthma is not a problem at the childminders. We have been baffled by this and have put it down to stress. The nursery have been really good about it.

We're going to try again with the nursery when he is older. He does seem to enjoy nursery though.
