Was talking to the school secretary about general things and we got onto school meals, said DS wouldn't be staying due to his wheat allergy.

She said... 'oh we have some children like that already, they are vegetarians'

Erm ok..... It didn't inspire me with knowledge for children with food issues!

However, the headmistress was fantastic!!!

Can children with wheat allergies not be vegetarians then?

Do you think she just meant other children who go home for lunch? As in "oh yes, we have children like that already - who go home for lunch." Not as in, oh yes we have vegetarians, kids with allergies, fussy buggers, wouldn't be allowed in my day, they'd have what they were given and be grateful for it.

I queried that actually and she said 'oh no they don't have wheat allergies as well just don't like to eat meat'

She then went on to tell me how crap the food was and hardly anybody has it anyway so didn't inspire much confidence!

Agree with cat- she wouldn't have anything to do with school dinners- thank God

The school doesn't even have a kitchen (and its a new build - only a few years old) they ship the dinners in already cooked from another primary school about 5 miles away.

If she's telling parents that perhaps that is the reason why hardly any children take them up!

It's quite normal to ship meals in, not a big
deal imo
