Milk ladder at home?

Hi there

Has anyone successfully completed the milk ladder at home without having to stop due to a reaction? I'd love some advice on the practicalities...
did you bake your own malt biscuits
which items did you buy from a shop and how did you know they were appropriate

My DS is 11m old and has been drinking Neocate LCP since 5m old (prior to that ebf).

I'd love to hear your experiences.
Any general advice and top tips would be great

I wouldn't even consider doing this in a normal flu season let alone during this coronavirus. My son takes weeks to recover from failed attempts to reintroduce food.

Thanks Chateau. That didn't really answer my question though...
I don't intend to start right away but I'd rather get ahead of the research before diving into this, and seeing as I have nothing but time right now...

We did this at home and have got all the way up to chocolate but can't get past this. It depends on how severe a reaction your child gets, but just start very small. It was easier for us as we have an older child who could tell us when their mouth was burning so we knew it was too much. Have you got the milk ladder paperwork? It specifies which items to buy or how to make them, plus how much to give and how often.

Thanks for your insight.

His reactions tend to be mild to moderate depending on what and how much he has had. As he was diagnosed quite young (3m) there has been no dairy at all or byproducts in his system for 6 months or so.

I have some basic outlines of the ladder, which do have some recipes on them, but I would rather give him something ready made I think. The Home made recipes call for things like skimmed milk powder. I don't mind baking but would wonder if I have done it correctly.

Sadly the versions I have don't have specific examples of what to buy, more general "this type of biscuit" etc. I didn't know if I was being too literal where it says Malt Milk biscuits to get these for example:

We have had it relatively normal for quite some time now so I think I'm quite nervous to start trying and go back to the misery and constant screamingConfused

Those are the biscuits we use. DD is 4 yrs soon and we have only recently managed stage 1. From the CMPA Facebook I’m a member of it seems that most children don’t start to out grow it until 3 years but some people do straight through it. You do need to pause for things illness and teething because you don’t know it’s an illness or reaction causing symptoms.

Remember your lo needs to be reaction free for 6 months before you try.

Honestly at 11 months old (so difficult to tell always what has been taken in) and during a pandemic (where I’d be more nervous about needing treatment), I’d leave it a few months. DS is 10 now and didn’t successfully finish the milk ladder till he was 7. He was still reacting to getting smears of other kids biscuits on him when he was at toddler groups etc.

Have you been given the milk ladder details and recipes - they are online if not.

We tried malted milk biscuits from the shop, LO was poorly for 3 days with upset tummy so have to wait 3-4 mths before trying again. My dietician has told me that children will all react differently and stall at different stages of the ladder and to just do what she needs.
