balneum in the bath and screaming

Bathed ds (5 1/2 months) today. We don't do it often, and he really loves his baths. We keep the water lukewarm ish, and have got to the point where it isn't making him flare up.

I was prescribed balneum to help with the itching, but as soon as his ankles hit the water he screamed. He didn't settle until he was removed from the bath, dressed and creamed and cuddled.

Could it be making him sting or something? I can't think why something that is meant to alleviate itching would provoke such a reaction.

Are there any other suggestions for a soothing bath for ds? Oilatum made him flare up.

oilatum made mine flare up too but Balneum worked a treat (mind you we used it everyday as advised by our GP)

HI, OIlatum makes me and my boys flare up and itch, and I know of many other people who have had the same experience.
Personally we just use a little Grapeseedoil and a few drops of Lavender in the bath, but if you want to avoid the smellie totally, just grapeseedoil is absolutely fine

Balneum gave me itching and rashes, but because I was using it incorrectly (as a shower gel not a bath soak). Could you be using too much/not swishing it around enough?

Have you tried aqueous cream? slather it on before ds gets in bath then swish off? Its the only thing that I can use atm, nice and cheap too. Would be interested in a non-petroleum based alternative tho, any ideas?

Well it said to add 1/8 capful to a baby bath. And I gave it a good swishing.

Is is usually quite soothing? He gets so itchy in the heat, I just want to give him a bit of relief.
