Affect of wheat fields on coeliac disease

I've been newly diagnosed with coeliac disease and I'm doing lots of my own research into the disease and how to manage it. I have an odd question I which I can't seem to find an answer to!

I work in agriculture in a way - not a farmer but I work in events and one of the events I run is held in a field of crops! Barley and wheat being 2 of the crops! Is exposure to these crops likely to cause problems in the same way as ingesting wheat and barley?

It's a big event and not one I can not work at! Grin

In theory you should be ok if you’re not inhaling particles, perhaps wear a face mask

I’m just an unfortunate coeliac who suffers from farmers lung Hmm which is asthma attacks triggered by the release of mould spores when grain crops are harvested

No - the gluten proteins are only found in the grain itself, not the stem or leaves. Your only risk will be exposure to ground grains or flour which shouldn't be present in the field.
