Allergies and intolerances

Ds has had a reaction to cheese. Should I avoid all dairy?

He vomited up everything after I gave him some cheese yesterday.
Its not the first time he's done it but before I put it down to the fact he had gagged on a bit and his reflux.

Anyway after his vomiting yesterday, I am sure he had a reaction to it.

So should I avoid all dairy now?
He has had cows milk in things like Mash potato but he has only had a very little bit.

Any advice?

Ideally yes, avoid all dairy for a couple of months, and then try reintroducing a tiny bit at a time, starting with yogurt, stopping for a couple of months each time if he still has a reaction.

Welcome to the world of dairy free eating!

Reflux and dairy intolerance are quite common to have together btw. Do you breastfeed? If so, is he ok if you eat dairy? If so then the good news is that it's quite a mild intolerance.

I've had to be dairy free myself since dd was diagnosed at 4 months, as milk in my diet was getting through to her. You do get used to it.

Use rice milk in his cooking though (the one with added calcium), not soya, as that isn't thought to be safe in any quantity for young boys (and they aren't sure about girls).

Thank you.

No I didnt BF because of his Reflux. He has been on a thick formula called Enfamil.

He has had bits of yoghurt and been ok with them but he doesnt eat much off a spoon at all.

So do they eventually grow out of it like the Reflux?

how old is he?
they can grow out of it - and this is more likely if you let his system mature before exposing him to anymore of it.

He's only 8 months.

Yes, around 80% of them grow out of it, but it can take a few years. Am pretty sure that Enfamil is made from (unhydrolysed) cows milk, so if he is handling that ok then that would confirm that it is a mild intolerance.
