Allergies and intolerances

Is it eczema, hives or something else?

My daughter is 6 months and has bad eczema that comes and goes. On Tuesday she broke out in hives, she had a horrible rash with raised bits so I think that was hives. It was all over her cheeks and face so I guess it must have been something she ate. She's severely allergic to cow's milk and also pretty allergic to egg, wheat, nuts and soy. We don't have any of those allergens in the house and DH are no longer eat them so I reckon it's another allergy, maybe to avocado or mango.

The next day (Wednesday) we restricted her diet to foods she's had numerous times. She went to bed at 7pm and when she woke at 11pm she had the horrible red rash on her face when but not the raised up hives. We gave her antihistamine, as we'd done when the hives came up the day before.

Today we have continued to limit her to food we know is safe but the terrible rash has flared up a few times. It doesn't come when she feeds but 20 min-2 hours later so I don't know if it is a food reaction especially as we haven't tried her on new stuff. Although she is so young everything is new IYKWIM.

It seems to me that since having hives on Tuesday her skin has not been the same. The GP has been very little help, I can't get an appointment with the allergy nurse for 2 weeks and the consultant is appointment is not until Feb.

Does it sound like eczema? It's not her usual sort, her cheeks and chin are incredibly dry and post box red. Or is it a reaction to an allergen as she comes and goes?

I know I need to ask the allergy nurse these questions but I'd really appreciate any experience anyone has.

Sorry for the long post, it's just she is so little and no one will see her for at least a couple of weeks Sad

Can you restrict her diet down to what you absolutely know she is ok with. And keep calling for cancellations with the experts.
