Handling dairy in your own home when you have 1dc with CMPI?

My DS had a 'mild' reaction to something today, projectile vomited and then came up in some very faint hives where sick had landed. But I acted quickly got piriton down him and straight in bath so was fine after a bit.

Now he is dairy free, so am I as he's BF. He's 7mo so is weening. All he had eaten was a bit if pitta (label mentioned no dairy and no warning against dairy) and an Ella pouch of sweet potato, brocli and pear. He did not seem to like this so had about 2 mouthfuls.

I really don't think it was any of these things and the only thing I can think of is that my DD drinks lots of milk/yogurts and I generally wash their pots&cuterly together in hot soapy water. Is it possible that his spoon or bowl was contaminated? Could he really be this sensitive????

What do people do? Should I dishwash everything he is going to use?

The only other reason is I accidnetly had 1 crumpet yesterday which has cows milk in, but that was a good 24 hours ago.

Bloody allergies it's a constant guessing game!!!

Contamination sounds unlikely, but not impossible - it's also possible that he's reacting to something else though (could easily be the crumpet).

Can he be that sensitive? Oh yes!

I'm allergic to cheese, the allergy is so bad that I don't allow the stuff in my house at all. On the rare occasions that DH, DS and DD have cheese when they're out they have to scrub their hands, brush their teeth and use mouth wash before coming near me (if they've to pizza hut where the whole place stinks they have to shower and change clothes as well and DH has to deal with washing the clothes) or I can get very sick.

Allergies are a pain; they're a pain for the people whose lives are inadvertently impacted, but it's even worse for the person living with the allergy.

If his allergen is in regular use in the house then dishwashing his crockery/cutlery would be no bad thing - or even keeping a complete set separate until you are more assured wrt exactly how sensitive he is.

Has he had the pitta and the pouch of Ella before? Just wondering if it's not dairy but something else. Also, re. eating the crumpet yesterday, my LO usually reacts the day after now. It used to be within the hour, but now it's only within the hour if it's uncooked.

whats the list on the pitta? I find it hard to get one thats soya, milk, nut/seed free for our family allergy problems.

DD2 is allergic dairy & egg. I'm still because she's a boob monster bf, so don't have either. Her symptoms have been vomiting and hives.

In the house, I allow dairy but am ultra careful re knives, plates etc. DD1 and DH wash hands and face after eating dairy. But that's it. I've possibly got a bit lax over the past few months. I cook dairy &'egg free all the time - so it's just in pre-prepared food, or yoghurt/cheese for DD1.

Egg is not allowed in the house (raw) at all. It's just too messy to clean up and DD seems to react very strongly to it. If anyone eats it when we are out, I insist on hands & face wash before touching DD2 ( I always have wipes on hand too). I briefly considered relaxing the no-egg rule until DD got v bad hives from a high chair when we were out which we suspect was egg related.

Oh, meant to say, anything that touches dairy is automatically done in the dishwasher - whether DD2 is likely to use it or not. More for my peace of mind than anything else - it means I'm happy that everything is properly clean when I start out.

I also bake a lot so that we can all eat the same treats. Keeps the sibling rivalry at bay a little Wink

Same as others really. We are very very careful preparing food when we are using allergens. I wash my hands constantly (and my mouth) and rinse the plates etc before they go in the dishwasher.

We actually try to be milk, egg and bit free as much as possible bit I am pregnant and cannot cope without cheese or chocolate at the moment Smile

And yes it is possible that spoons/plates etc can cause reactions even after washing. We have never been in this situation but I know others who have Hmm

have you checked the pitta for soya? our 3 yr old has cmpa and also soya allergy, soya derived emulsifiers in bread are a nightmare for us. Our dietician told us that 60% of children with cmpi or cmpa are also intolerant/allergic to soy. hope your little one is feeling better.
