I was hoping that as he is coming up for two, he would have grown out of his allergies.

HA! Not likely.

He went into anaphylaxis from the skin prick tests. He's fine now, but I'm not.

We have been sent home with two Jext pens, and a daily dose of cetirizine.

He reacts most severely to CMP. One of the worst reactions they've seen to it, apparently. He is also anaphylactic to nuts, and moderately allergic to soy.

CMP he goes into anaphylaxis from secondhand contact. Toddler drinks milk, spills it on hand. Touches toy. DS3 then touches toy. Goes into anaphylaxis.

How the hell can he go to preschool?!

I don't take him to toddler groups any more, it's too hard to keep him safe.

WTF do I do? He needs to socialise with other DC's.

How do you manage an allergy this severe? He even reacts to nut oils and dairy proteins in toiletries on other people. I use an eyeshadow with nut products in, cuddle him, anaphylaxis. I use a body cream with milk products in, cuddle him, anaphylaxis.

I need some help. All the advice I can see about allergies this severe is geared towards nut allergies only, and for reactions this severe, they suggest a nut free preschool.

I can't see ANY preschool being CMP free AND nut free...

And I won't have the luxury of homeschooling him past 4y9m anyway, even if I did do that for preschool, because I have to go to work when he hits school age, as I will be swapped from IS to JSA.

What is CMP?

DD is allergic to the fumes of poached fish....I am really sympathetic. She's allergic to eggs, nuts and fish. When you say goes into anaphylaxis, do you mean he can't breathe? I have an epipen for DD but have never had to use it (she was hospitalized for first exposure to eggs)

i am sympathetic to you I mean, not to DD (if you see what I mean)

CMP = Cow's Milk Protein. Even in the most minute of traces. In all forms.

He's gone into anaphylaxis 11 times now since 6mo. No matter how careful we are.

Can't breathe, tongue swelling, rash/hives all over, flushed face, wheeze, all within minutes of being exposed to the allergen.

Near enough the same with nuts.

Touch wood, he seems ok with eggs.

I really feel for you CouthyMow, that must be so hard. My DS has skin reactions on contact with milk (hives, itching etc) but only has anaphylaxis on ingestion and that's hard enough to cope with so I can't imagine how difficult it must be for you. Have you contacted the Anaphylaxis Campaign? They are really fantastic and their helpline is excellent.

I haven't. I hadn't heard of them. I got give the website for Allergy UK, but all their information on such severe allergies seems geared towards nuts. Yet while DS3 is allergic to nuts too, his reaction to CMP is far worse.
