Alcohol support

when to stop?

I am in a horrible mess. Went to a wedding and got into binge drinking. I made a fool of myself and feel stressed and anxious. I got carried away as I didn't have my children with me. Everyone must think I'm a idiot.
I hate myself for this.

I stopped drinking after years of being an absolute arse everywhere I went after a situation like you describe. If you do this a lot and know it is making everyone around you and you unhappy, then it is time to stop. I am now alcohol free for almost three years and although it has been and is still really hard at times, life is 100% better. Its not perfect and things can still be shit but honestly, it was the best decision I ever made. You have to decide whether you want to stop. PM me if you like x

The feelings of being an arse will pass don't worry, I too have done plenty of these sorts of things which is why I'm now giving up alcohol. You will feel better in a day or two and I'm sure, most people find it amusing and understand that you are letting your hair down when your kids are not around.

Yeah I'm really putting myself through it. Some people don't get why I'm embarrassed. Just feel down that I let myself down and everyone must think I'm a idiot.

Alcohol also brings your mood down :(

I too feel like this which is why I am giving it every effort to stop drinking.

It will pass & I agree there is a better life without alcohol than with it Flowers

you have Doom, OP. I was a relentless dick at any occasion you care to mention, including falling over pissed at a wake.

I quit nearly 2 and a half years ago after discovering how low rock bottom can be. it got way, way worse than embarrassing myself at a party.

quitting was hard but it's the best thing I've ever done. make this the bottom and save yourself a lot of heartache.

Hi, chocoholic. Just to mention that there are a few of us over on the bottle of wine every day thread who are quitting (in my case nearly quitting) drinking for similar reasons to you if you want to come and join us. It's quite an old thread, but we're active on the last couple of pages of it (although is recommend reading the whole thing to see how many people struggle with this like us). Hope to see you there

Oh yes, I remember that feeling well. I have now been dry for 215 days.. (go me!). And one of the revelations is that although I know I was a complete arse many, many times when drinking and in the past the memories would just creep up on me and flood me with shame.. now i've been completely dry for a while they've lost their resonance I can forgive myself and they don't bother me at all.
It is great and if you are thinking about it, read some quitting literature, find some support on line or in rl and just do it. Not drinking is brilliant!

It really is the best thing I have ever done too. Not easy and fraught at times (actually being 'real' for the first time ever) but life is much easier in so many ways.

just to add that I couldn't imagine a life after booze at the beginning. I am now actively delighted with sobriety. it's tough but the rewards are immeasurable.

I have had the worse few days. But yeah I have decided to give up on the weekend binge. My children have seen me down this time and that's not fair on them. I don't ever let it get in the way of me being a good mum but saying that when you feel rough u are not at ur best and give them anything to keep them quiet. So that's that. Hopefully my partner will follow soon. I have to do it before it becomes more of a problem in my life.
