Finding birth certificate

I have thought long and hard about finding my birth parents. So I called the register in Scotland. And discovered I was adopted either 17 months later than I believed or 5 months later and I am a year younger than I thought??!!!!! Also born in a different place wtf???

How strange toto, do you have any older relatives amongst your family members who might be able to fill you in?

How long ago were you adopted?

Oh gosh! That must be really unsettling. Hope someone can help.

Is the date of birth correct? Is it possible your family count your adoption as having started when you came home to them but the legal paperwork took much longer to be processed and make it all official (so a later date on the adoption cert)? Or the other way round, the paperwork was all done and dusted for a few months before you actually moved to your family home for whatever reason (illness/hopsital stays/ custody disupte?). I don't know how the Scottish system worked then, but there may be many reasons why the family history facts and paperwork don't tally.

I hope you're OK. It must feel very disturbing to make such a big decision to start your search only to be faced with discrepancies you'd never expected. Thanks

Sorry. ignore all that. I thought your adoption cert didn't tally but it's your birth cert.

This is a bit confusing . Because information about adoption certificates for adopted children is not given out over the phone by the registrars office.

Sorry if that wasn't clear, it would also include any other information about an adoption, such as birth certificates.

Without sounding patronising, are you sure you have sourced the right birth certificate?

Adoption can take time ( minimum 12 weeks) but it ounds as though something is a bit squeue - whiff here
