No really, properly famous this time...

provided you speak Kazakh and live in Kazakhstan

I'm a bit worried that when we do a birth country revisit we will be swamped by fans at the airport.

Unfortunately i look like a lump though DS does look like a film star in teh making.

Is there a link? Or do you have people to do that for you now...

smile

MrsBW Mon 03-Mar-14 19:57:27

I think your people have to talk to her people.... grin

OneOfOurLilkasIsMissing Mon 03-Mar-14 20:28:18

grin Congratulations!

Have you got good reviews by newspapers/Kazakh version of TV guides?

Your DS is such a handsome lad he'd fit right in at the Oscars without a suit or anything

Kewcumber Mon 03-Mar-14 22:08:17

I was very worried about the spin they'd put on it as intercountry adoption is a bit of a hot potato over there.

But family of one of the Kazakhs I know said it was very nice and very positive. Very weird seeing yourself dubbed into Kazakh

Kewcumber Mon 03-Mar-14 22:09:50

If you pm me and I recognise your name I'll send you a link so you can admire DS's star quality (and me being unwittingly eaten by my sofa)

Good on you, I bet it's fab! I saw your page in the psychologies mag and that was great, your ds is gorgeous

Devora Mon 03-Mar-14 22:49:20

I just knew this would be kew grin

Is this the documentary, missus?

Italiangreyhound Mon 03-Mar-14 22:56:26

You realise there are few people who could say they will be mobbed by fans in Kazakhstan! And you are one of them.

Kewcumber Mon 03-Mar-14 23:03:44

It is indeed Devora

I was a bit startled as I was expecting to be edited down to a 2 min interview in a 30 min programme that covered heaps of childrne around the world. In fact they did a full 30 mins on each country (5 programmes in total) and we are actually quite a large part of this programme (as DS is old enough to be interviewed and was semi-coherent unlike the other chidlren involved) blush

Moomoomie Tue 04-Mar-14 09:11:13

How did your hair look Kew? grin
Would love to see it, will pm you.
Will we have to start making an appointment to talk to you now?

Kewcumber Tue 04-Mar-14 09:15:27

funny Moomoomie, as I looked at my blobbiness being eaten by the sofa I did genuinely think "Oh well at least my hair looks OK"!

Kewcumber Tue 04-Mar-14 09:17:58

For the avoidance of doubt - for those who have watched it - I am not the slim pretty one with the baby and the Royal family at the beginning... look out for the sofa... that'll be me...

SuburbanSpaceperson Tue 04-Mar-14 09:27:23

I have sent you a message Kew. smile

SuburbanSpaceperson Tue 04-Mar-14 18:43:19

Aww, your DS is so cute, and a very agile little footballer. He was a bit hmm at some of the link bits where the presenter was speaking Kazakh and he was standing beside her. grin I had to try lip reading (which I'm quite rubbish at) as it was hard to hear you over the dubbing.

Kewcumber Tue 04-Mar-14 19:34:38

bearing in mind this was done last summer and he wasn't even 8 I think he handled himself quite well... especially with a football.

steppemum Tue 04-Mar-14 23:21:12

I've just watched it. you can pick up quite a lot, but it is really frustrating that they dub the Russian, so you can't hear it!

You come across as very sensible and a lovely mum, your ds is fab!

I was surprised though that they didn't post his name as the Russian/Kazakh version of his name but as another name, did they use his birth name??

And I am sure I have met you somewhere!! (feels a bit WOO!)

OneOfOurLilkasIsMissing Tue 04-Mar-14 23:24:25

I did feel for your DS when the presenter had her arm round him and was talking loudly in a language he didn't understand - it can't have been easy for him.

He came across very well, as a really lovely little chap smile You came across very well too!

Kewcumber Tue 04-Mar-14 23:28:22

steppemum yes they used his birth name which is still his middle name. WE didn;t have a problem with that but it was odd becasue they used the adoptive first names of all teh other children even though some of them had very non-russian/kazakh first names and I chose his first name as one which worked in all three languages!

steppemum Tue 04-Mar-14 23:50:10

Did you meet the other families during filming?

Kewcumber Wed 05-Mar-14 08:16:24

No - but I already knew all of them! One of the comments the journalist made when I met her was "you're famous everyone we've met knows you!"

I run a UK Kazakh adoption group so a core group of families meet 2-3 times a year. And even those who don't generally come I've met at some point or other.

steppemum Wed 05-Mar-14 11:45:24

I have to say, that the longer I watched it, the more convinced I was that I had met you! It was your face and voice rather than name or story, so i am wondering if our paths crossed in Kazakhstan!

Moomoomie Wed 05-Mar-14 12:44:36

Kew... Your son is wonderful, a real credit to you. I love the way he kept looking at you off camera when she was teaching him.

And yes.... Your hair looked very nice, as did the rest of you. I feel I really know you now, as I have been in your home.
Thank you for sharing.

Kewcumber Wed 05-Mar-14 16:02:36

That's so sweet of you Moomoomie. He was only 7 (last summer) when it was filmed and was going through a very tough time so I was a bit apprehensive about how it would affect him but he loved it!

I had forgotten that he had no front teeth then!
