Anonymous versus named academic forums

Anonymous forums have a reputation for being more unpleasant, like the poisonous JobRumors boards.

But can I say that I find this academic forum really helpful, constructive and civil.

It's full of robust, sensible advice, especially when academics are BU, with no soft soap or telling ourselves how amazing we are for doing quite straightforward things. I don't know whether it's the Mumsnet unsentimental ethos or what, but thank you all - it's what I need.

Glad you find it useful Failing I don't go on any other academic forums, so I have no idea what they are like. Perhaps if I was job hunting I would, though, see the inside gossip.
