Moving back to UK to take up position

So after leaving very unpleasant partner (have lived outside of UK for over a decade but I studied there) I'm going to be moving to south east to take up an academic post (not very well paid or stable, but a fresh start). I am not certain of living costs etc. I might be able to get an all inclusive (utilities and wifi) one bed centre of town flat for just over 1000 per month through the University. On the other hand further out of town in a satellite village I might be able to get a two bed house for 750 but then I'd have to pay for travel and utilities, wifi etc. Can anyone give me an idea what I would expect to pay per month for utilities etc?

It's not cheap but it's doable. Where have you been living? That might be useful to know because of comparisons. Well done for leaving the unpleasant partner by the way!

South East England is wonderful.....beautiful! I think you would do quite well in the city centre flat from the sound of it....do you like living in cities? I love it...close to all the life and shops etc.

Would be great not having to pay utilities!

Greece and renting from partner's parents next door (bad idea). Am trying to work out if it will be cheaper to pay bills separately or to opt for the small expensive all inclusive one. Also looking at private lets it seems I'd have issues as I have no UK credit history?

Academics are considered to be good tenants. Our post-docs coming from abroad don't find it a problem to rent apartments, despite having no UK credit history.
