I have got an interview coming up
It's for a lectureship in education .
I've been working in the dept for a while part time as a tutor and iv worked closely with colleagues there
I have a more discipline specific role part time at the uni too

I'm panicking- I don't have a master's or a PhD
But I'ge been pushed by the colleagues I work with to apply. Thy want me on their team - but the prof is not being v forthcoming about it all.

Anyway, I have an interview coming up and I wonder what questions people get asked in this sort of thing....

Any help gratefully received

Can the colleagues give you some further information? They must have gone through The Process.

One is on the panel -)))
And the other has sent a couple of 'pointers' re research questions
I feel like I've asked enough tbh
They've both given me a reference and the one that isn't on the panel sent me a copy of his. I was touched that he respected me so much!
But I know he's busy too

I've fucked up more academic interviews than I'd care to remember! The worst ones were where the size of the panel was enormous and I found myself struggling to explain concepts to non-specialists. I should have prepared better for that eventuality.

Are you likely to have a large or small panel?

It's 4 people apprently
Three professors from my establishment and a visit one that I don't know
I've never had an interview at this level
I've prepared questions about my general teamwork etc
But I'm just not sure about the academic queations
My presentation doesn't feel great
The last two slides don't reflect what I want to say tbh
I feel at such a low level of competence tbh
I feel awful and it's today

Make sure you do know what it is you want to say, then, and have that ready to answer a follow-up question from the panel, or to answer one of the other questions from the panel.

Four is a good number. I've a room of 18 before now.

Best of luck!

I can't offer any advice but just wanted to say good luck! You know that you've got at least one panel member rooting for you so try to focus on them to help combat your nerves.

I am too late, but how did it go?

Terrible
I was a real dork
I answered with a either really simplistic or crazy answers
I felt one of the professors was really unengaged with me
Not a nice feeling
The presentation was ok tho
I'm not great this evening but it'll be ok

Really sorry to hear that academic. Do you know when you will hear? It's hard post interview, I like to deconstruct (which is not good at all!). Keeping it crossed for you.

That's nerves. It's bloody tough, especially when a panellist or the whole panel choose not to bring out the best in you.

When I finally got my academic lectureship, it was as though they already wanted me. So I performed up to the task, iykwim.

I answered the very first question in such a crazy way- they all know I was talking bollocks and so did I, but I couldn't unsay it -)))
And it went down hill from there

Put your feet up, put it down to experience, and be pleased you gave it a try. How else would we learn?

When will you hear?

You'll be fine. They think you can do it otherwise you wouldn't have been offered the job.
In my experience, an awful lot of people in life feel a fraud in their jobs. It's just a confidence thing.
I'm sure you'll be brilliant!

Yeah, I haven't come at this job from a typical route, I'm quite under qualified for it in terms of education but I have years of industry experience and they are interested in thst and will work out some sensible cpd with me
I asked a senior colleague mate what I wlshoudk do on day one, week one, month one etc
And she said day one is writing grant proposal, day two is publish some of the work I've been doing and I'll be fine
