Family laundry baskets

Does anyone have a good solution to my problem. I would like to buy 4 rectangular laundry baskets ideally in different colours, stackable so that I can fold each family members cloths into and get my kids to carry upstairs/ unload.

I make piles on the sofa. No sitting on sofa (or at the table) until it's put away. Don't have space to store 4 laundry baskets!

Collapsible ones? Why do they need to be different colours? Surely they tell whose by which clothes they have in

I bought a couple from B&M.
Two different colours, one each for my DDs. The different colours help them and me put clothing into the right basket.

The theory is that the baskets live in their rooms and they put the dirty clothes in over the week and bring them down when full. Washing and drying gets done, then the laundry gets sorted into each basket. DDs carry them up, put the clothes away and the basket lives in their rooms ready for the next dirty clothes...
Sometimes it works. Other times I nag.

Different colour baskets is easier because I have two similarly sized DDs (10&12), it easier than rummaging for something definitive.

I do this but DH or the cats usually end up sitting the clean, ironed items

I use shopping bags, the reusable ones - they don't take up so much room as a long basket, kids can easily carry it upstairs and when not in use they fold neatly and get put in a drawer.

Some good thoughts. I want things to stay folded nicely so not keen on the bags idea. Two boys similar clothes hence the different coloured baskets idea...

I think my kids would just sit on the floor if I put maundey on the sofa! Keep them coming....

Even easier- wash the clothes by person. So DS1's load and DS2's load etc. It really helps enormously. No more sock sorting, or whose trousers are these... Any white shirts all get done together.

We have seats at the table. I put their crap at their place. They need to move it before I can put their dinner in front of them. It works really fast.

I have those collapsible tubs from ebay, they fold up flat-ish.

I have a drawer unit with plastic drawers/trays that lives in the utility room. A drawer for each person. I put dry clothes in and when full put the trays in that person's room.

Obviously I then resort to the reusable shopping bags for the next few loads until the bloody kids bring their empty trays back down but in theory it works.

I use collapapsable crates. Just Google them, mine are black and grey, but Ebay is telling me you can get various colours if you want to.

All dirty laundry is in one basket in the bedroom and I sort and wash for all family, otherwise the machine would only run 1/3 full most of the times. I then fold and iron and DD gets a crate to clear away.

The crates are also used for everything else, at the moment two are in use for stuff we take with us for sc holiday. Others hold donations to the charity shop until tomorrow.

If not in use they fold flat and live in a storage cupboard.

Mine are cream, grey and white, though not a deliberate colour coordinate they do stack and have just been bought at various times from boring old supermarkets.

My Best Buy was a laundry bin for DS. I wanted a plastic one with a lid when he was a teen to contain the pong. I actually bought a large black bin with a touch lid. I also bought a pull along builders chest with wheels to throw all his pants, socks and sports kit in.

I do the same as @NapoleonOzmolysis with VERY similar outcomes I am working on training them to just take the clothes out of the drawer downstairs to put them away, rather than taking the whole drawer. DS(11) tends to just rummage through his downstairs drawer for the clothes he wants and leaves the spillage on the floor for the cat to sit on 🙄

My children would just sit on top of the folded laundry. Or throw it on the floor. I have laundry bags for dirty laundry that hang over the bed knobs and plastic baskets for taking the clean back up.
