I’m afraid it extends into your 40s and presumably beyond. I find a good argument clears the air. The pattern on holidays with my mum is: weird tension because we ordinarily don’t spend much time together > mismatched holiday expectations become apparent > irritation (me) and hurt feelings (her) > argument > remorse/guilt (me) and silence (her) > discussion > get over it and enjoy holiday.

Best to get all that out of the way on the first day.

OP, friends have found themselves taking up running, quite suddenly, while on holidays with their mothers. One started off so as not to murder her mother on a one-on-one week in Devon and now does triathlons.

It's like your parents regress & in their mind you are 6 again not 26:36/46/56 or whatever which is your real age!
