Cancelled interview and they were rude. Normal?

So I was meant to have an interview today. I had a phone call yesterday afternoon offering me an interview for today. The job they wanted me to interview for wasn't the one I applied for. Initially, I accepted, but I thought about it and the new job didn't suit me for a few reasons. It was too late to call them yesterday so I emailed. I got back a reply saying that I was being ridiculous and unreasonable that I cancelled so late notice and that I was aware of the job being offered so I should've thought about it before replying. I replied saying I applied for a different job, not this one, and upon thinking about it, I couldn't do that job at this moment in time. I'm always so polite to people and I get upset easily, but why didn't they just say thanks for letting us know, surely it was better than me not just turning up?

In my experience people are always cancelling interviews at the last moment. Changed their minds, got a better offer, whatever. The only reasonable response is "ok, thanks for letting me know".

I'd also never assume that someone would be happy to switch to interviewing for a different role at the last moment. That's just strange.

Try and put it behind you. It sounds like it would have been a stressful place to work.

This. People often cancel, and most panels are used to this. It's no big deal.

I cancelled one today too by email, as this was how all communication had been done - and apologised profusely if I had caused any inconvenience - it's next week. All I got back was a pulling back of the teams meeting.
I mean, I didn't expect virtual tears or 'Noooo' but thanks for letting us know would have been nice!

Emails typically take longer to be picked up. If they were all sat waiting for you to arrive and then you sent an email instead of called then I would be annoyed if I was them as it's a waste of their time. So it depends how close to the time that you contacted them?

To be fair, you couldn't exactly give much notice if they only called you to interview yesterday, and the interview was today!

This is all very odd..why did they say you were being ridiculous? You are ridiculous for cancelling..ridiculous for not wanting this job..it doesn't really work.

This has happened to me lots as an interviewer. A surprising number of candidates don't even bother to say that they're not coming, they just don't turn up. It's mildly irritating, but it's to be expected when you're recruiting - you just have to suck it up. You don't send weird emails to candidates telling them that they're ridiculous...I mean, I've interviewed tons of ridiculous people, but deciding not to attend doesn't even come close.
