Name shortening

Just after some advice - I run my own business and have lots of back and forth emails with customers on a daily basis -

I have a very simple 5 letter name - which is often shortened and sometimes an extra letter added Hmm I really dislike it being shortened- it's happened my whole life and I have always disliked it.

I'm unsure of how to correct people via email - I always reply with my correct name as a sign off. it feels so blunt to reply with I would prefer to be called - but sometimes these relationships are on going and are often 10+ emails going back and forth. I find it so grating - but I'm so bad at dealing with it.

Is it rude to reply with this as the end?

(As an aside I would prefer to be called proper name)

If running your own business, I would just let it go, as you need to build these relationships. However I appreciate it’s annoying and maybe I’m just not assertive enough

I have similar as well it does drive me nuts as I always sign off by my correct name and the reply's will come back with the altered name. I let it go, if they haven't got the clue by then I guess they never will.

I hate this too. I do try to address it because like you, it really does bother me. I try to go for cheerfully assertive e.g. 'It's actually Victoria! 😀' (Not my real name.)

However, I'm not sure what I'd do in your situation as it's clients for your business so it's a slightly different dynamic. I think that unfortunately you might need to try and ignore it, unless you can get to a point with them where you know them well enough to address it?

I've let it go until now - it's just that one of my clients emailed me back today being really pedantic about some phrasing that had been used 8 emails ago and it really irked me.

I have always hated my name being shortened, so do my two DDs, one of whom only has a four letter name anyway!

I think it's really rude and arrogant for someone to call another person by a shortened name, if Person A doesn't like it, why should I have to be ok with someone calling me Becky (not my name) if my name is Rebecca.

I'd put something like 'thank you for your email blah blah blah, just for the record I prefer to be called by my full name
They should address you by the name you signed off as, their error not yours
