New oven- do you search by size? Function? Cheap?

My knocking-on-a-bit (tops, 20 years, probably 14) oven's light has gone.

I don't even know what you'd call it, a 'double oven'?

The top bit is a conventional fan oven; the bottom bit is sort of an oven with a grill, but the ability to heat up entirely.

Which, apart from Xmas day, and a bit of grilling, I hardly use.

Obviously whatever I replace it with will need to fit in the space.

Are they 'standard'? I actually don't mind if the new oven is smaller and the bit beneath just gets a false front cover over it.

We're definitely here for 3 more years, then, possibly not.

Do I go cheap enough, but functional? Given that our house buyer will gut the kitchen? (we didn't, 14 years ago, we replaced the doors and tops on all the units).

Advice wanted, plus WWYD?

I forgot to add- I had it cleaned a couple of days ago; now the light doesn't work.

I can obviously chase the franchisee, but I'd need to have been able to prove it was working before, but not after.

And, the bulb we took out, today, had blown; however, a new bulb doesn't work.

My suspicion is they squirted something in there that shorted it, which is why the bulb blew, but I didn't check that, the light, afterwards, having become lax and having used the company for years.

Ovens tend to last a long time so I don't think there is an issue with cheap ones other than the quality of the grill pans and knobs etc. My oven has a timer to automatically switch on and switch off. When I was in the office pre covid I occasionally put food in the morning and used the timer so I had a nice hot meal ready for when I got home.

Would you consider a refurbished one from eBay? I bought an ex display Belling which was 30% cheaper than buying new and 4 years on is still working well.

Oh yes, I'd certainly consider refurbished! Didn't know that was an option!

Don't buy too cheap. Mum did and was a nightmare (hinges went /never worked/ no temp
Light). Get a mid range one if you aren't planning on staying their. Could always put a drawer in underneath for pans etc. AthlouhhI would want a separate grill still (annoying to have to have oven door open when grilling) and a fan oven with self cleaning walls as a minimum. Neff is quite high although I am sure you knew that!

Yes, when we bought,14-15 years ago, the Neff was there!

Still deciding whether to spend £100 getting it fixed is worth it. (£70 call out, 20 minutes to fix it, I expect).

If it's only the light can you live with it not working? I can't say I often look in my oven when it's on!

I would get it fixed to be honest if it still works fine and cooks well is clean!

Annoying of the cleaning company. I would tell them as they will have insurance. Could you also have a look at fixing your self. Look at e spares for parts and diy videos.

Neff is a very good make and just about everything repairable or replaceable - we’ve had Neff ovens in both houses, our current one is about 20 years old and still absolutely fine. Have a look online and see if anyone else has had the same problem and how they fixed it, it may not need replaced.

Get it fixed-we just had similar and bought a cheaply glaring fb to replace the neff- it was half the weight, with no ‘magic oven’ timer function etc, so we rewound and got the neff repaired-£84. Planned to resell the cheap one, but actually gave it away to someone setting up a flat from scratch.

I would say get it fixed. We had a 20 year old oven that had been repaired twice, so when the it went again we decided to get a new one. Bloody thing is on it's third element in just over two years (Fisher Paykel rubbish)

You will probably find the quality of spares isnt as good as the original. It took 18 years for the first element to go then the replacemnet only lasted a year or so

If you do get a new one make sure it has a good guarantee FP are now doing 5 years which bugs me
