Oh heck, that's all I need, job interview

I applied ages ago, then they aborted the recruitement process due to covid. Communication was good at the time and I've just been asked to go for interview on Friday.

I was really excited about the role when I applied, it's a big step up in my current field, a role a know I can do well and approx 30% payrise! It will also be far more challenging and likely involve longer hours.

However, in the meantime, DH had been diagnosed with cancer, he will actually be in hospital recovering from a major operation on the day of the interview and has been told at least 12 weeks' recovery during which he will need support. Then, depending on how things go, he may need to start other cancer treatments.

My current employer has been brilliant, allowed lots of flexibility and time off and really could not have been more supportive.

I'm really torn. It would be easier to stay and have the easier life but the reason I applied for the new role was that before this crisis I was really quite bored.

I'm also facing the very real prospect of becoming the sole breadwinner, at least for a period of time, so the opportunity to earn a much better salary is maybe too good to turn down?

WWYD?

For sure go to the interview, prepare as you would have, and then worry about accepting it only if you're offered it. You won't know if you really feel about it until you can actually say yes or no.

I knowI should but it's two days of intensive tests, exercises, presentation etc and a week's work to prepare properly.

Go for it... worry about logistics later. Well done for getting an interview; it's really tough to even get to interview stage in the current climate!

In your shoes I would politely decline the interview, don’t be vague, explain that since application your DH has fallen ill and that the timing isn’t right for you. Then when he is recovered, in the future should the role become available again you can apply. If you attend, get offered the role then turn it down it’s a waste of everyone’s time

I meant to add, you already have a job, they have been understanding about needing time off, you may need more. If you didn’t already have a good job, I’m your field then I would suggest interviewing but not now, whilst you’re focus is needed elsewhere.
