I think I just wrecked my recent tendon surgery

I had fairly minor surgery on a calf muscle 9 days ago - a partial incision into the top of the tendon to release constriction.

I can weight bear and walk around on it, just can't drive for another week or so and can't straighten the leg very well yet. I've just bloody slipped and over extended the knee, suddenly straightening the leg, and felt a horrible tearing sensation inside.

The pain nearly floored me for a few seconds, although it has eased a bit now - I can still weight bear and walk (even though I feel like I've been kicked and it hurts to touch) so it can't be catastrophic - but the new pain is in the muscle itself, about 5 inches down from where they actually made the cut.

I'm waiting for a call back from the surgeon, I rang them to say I thought I'd done something to it. Anyone damaged a healing muscle or tendon before, how long have I set myself back? What an IDIOT, everything was going fine.

Don't be angry with yourself - you didn't slip in purpose! It may be just a pulled muscle and could settle itself, fingers crossed. 🤞

Rest it for now, that can't do any harm.

I know, I just should've been more careful!

The pain is settling, it feels pretty nasty but not dire, iykwim. Just stiff and sore. Maybe where the main muscle is a bit stiff from lack of use for 9 days, the sudden slip and overstretch just caused a little pull somewhere else, nothing major. Fingers crossed!

Have you been referred for physio or can you afford a private physio? Might be worth asking them for a check/advice?

I think I'll probably be referred for physio after my post op follow-up next week - it should be covered by my insurance.

The surgeon's office said they would tell him what I'd done and he call back if he wanted me to go in. He didn't call today (he doesn't have a clinic today and he's a busy man) but it's settled right down now - the muscle is just sore to touch, so hopefully a false alarm and no compromise to the surgical site.

Physio is not going to be fun.
