What so you didn't realise the lyrics to Blurred Lines were "rapey" way back in the dark ages of 2013?

Ok then Hmm.

And then I realised that there are men who use that same language when taking advantage of a woman, and it doesn't matter that that's not my behaviour. Or the way I think about things.

Bollocks. I can't see any situation where that language would be used that wasn't creepy, but filming the video with nude models removes any conceivable ambiguity.

I'm usually one to take the piss out of OTT internet outrage about song lyrics but that song is awful and his 'apology' is the most transparent of lies.

Nor much of an apology, is it? Hmm

Urgh. I remember watching Glastonbury on tv and he was on stage while his flunkies were selecting young women out of the crowd to come up on stage with him. Utterly foul, like they were selecting his order from a sweet shop. Misogynistic fucker Angry

What a slimy nasty little lying wanker

Lyrics from "Feels" - "I gave up all my exes for your exit holes" Hmm

Always have found him grim regarding women. Didn't he instigate legal action against Marvin Gaye's estate for them claiming he used his music? Then it was awarded in their favoutlr and he had to cough up?

I've heard he is/was a right little letch. It's not the first music video he's done with naked women (lap dance n.e.r.d) and apparently Maria Cary made complaints about unwanted touching when they did a music video together.

I thought the lyric from Feels was "x and o's" not "exit holes" - like how in a text message x represents a kiss and o represents a hug

Now I feel stupid Blush

I thought the lyric from Feels was "x and o's"

That is the lyric.

Lyrics from "Feels" - "I gave up all my exes for your exit holes"

I cut off all my exes for your X and Os, is what he says.

But still, Blurred Lines was a fucking disgusting song. I wish I could say I'm shocked at how well it did, but...

Anyone who wrote, collaborated or otherwise contributed to Blurred Lines is an arsehole. PW included. The song is revolting and there's never been a moments doubt as to what it meant.

Either PW was stupid (and you'd have to be spectacularly stupid in this case) or just didn't care. I'd bet my left foot it's the latter.

Blurred lines is vile

Maybe I'm going deaf, maybe I'm going blind, just let me 'liberate you'

Grim.

Even if he himself didn't realise it was rapey (sounds fake, but ok) how did not one of his many producers, or anyone else involved in making this record not even think it or point it out?

He's apparently just realised that we live in a sexist society but he didn't know that back then Hmm

Report
AnyFucker · 16/10/2019 18:41

Yeah, fuck off Pharrell. Your career hardly took off after that piece of shit "song" and your rapey mate didn't come of it very well either.

Pharrell helped write the lyrics. I give you:

Had a bitch, but she ain't as bad as you
So hit me up when you pass through
I'll give you something big enough to tear your ass in two

And Pharrell is now realising that these lyrics are regrettable? Hmm

Looking on the bright side, does this mean that “rapey” is no longer fashionable?

Indeed, and a very big genuine standing ovation to Paula Patton for getting away from equally sordid Robin Thicke.

I wonder when Helen Lasichanh will see the light? Mumsnet is here for you Helen if you need advice on cutting ties Smile.
