What relatively easy things could you do to be healthier?

We'll leave aside the reasons why you don't do them (because it all boils down to self sabotage really) but what do you think you could do to improve your health without too much effort?

I'll start

  1. Sleep Better (not have phone in the bedroom, get some proper black out curtains, remember to take my herbal sleeping pill every night).

  1. Exercise more (get up earlier, plan exercise slots at the start of the week, stop using lack of sleep and tiredness as an excuse not to exercise)

  1. Eat less (not let husband dish up dinner, don't eat til lunch time, consciously reduce amount of carbs on plate by a third then a half)

  1. take all my supplements (magnesium, B complex, zinc and Perfectil) - buy a weekly pill dispenser from the chemist and bloody use it. Every day, after lunch. Except magnesium which is just before bed.

Written down, none of those look too difficult! So I am really really going to try and work them into my normal every day.

What easy (emphasis on easy) healthy changes could you my fellow Mumsnetters make and how could you achieve them? Looking for inspiration here!

Honesty I'm pretty healthy.

But I do very little exercise.

It's a simple case of getting my arse into the habit.

Same as OP, take vitamins daily and start exercising more. In reality this will mean a stretching/yoga routine (for complete beginners) and more walking.

Plus also commit to a regular deep tissue massage. I have muscle/joint pain and regular massage really helps. In turn this encourages the exercise one.

Your list is too complicated already.

Start with dedication to two weeks of:

  1. Drink 2-3 litres of water each day

  1. Walk everywhere you can, always take the stairs.

  1. No alcohol or drugs for two weeks.

  1. No sugar for two weeks.

Then see how you get on.

Stop eating just because I want something rather than being hungry.

Drink more water.

Exercise and as with OP, stop letting tiredness stop me.

Go to bed an hour earlier!!!!

Grow your own anything (garden, hanging, window sill)

Make a salad with all lunches and dinners and then fit the rest to the salad. I.e. put the salad on your plate first and then you'll do much better portion control of the meat (if any) and carbohydrates

Use garlic and or capers in salads or for cooking

Eat fish regularly

Have a boiler that doesn't work Grin

Drink far less caffeine and alcohol.
Apart from that I think I eat well, sleep well and do a lot of exercise.

@ShagMeRiggins

You seem to have misunderstood my thread, although I'm not sure I could have made myself clearer.

This is not a thread for YOU to tell ME how you think I could be healthier.

This is me asking other people what THEY think THEY could do to be healthier.

Perhaps some lessons in basic reading comprehension for you while I "take the stairs" ?

I could quit wine, and take the dog for much longer walks.

Easy Bib......I think shagme was trying to be helpful. Perhaps add stress-reduction to your list....

Top of my list is to realise that eating 5 a day means fruit n veg, not chocolate bars and sweets!

Following with interest. Im also fed up about being bone idle over simple things that would make me feel better/healthier.

4. No sugar for two weeks

How do people do this in simple fashion, I wonder? So many things seem to contain sugar...

I watched that programme recently about secret habits of slim people and came up with:

  • sit down less (I’ve set my Fitbit timer to go off if I sit for 45 mins)
  • stop eating by 7 and don’t eat until 11 the next day
  • got to bed at same time every day and get up at the same time to make sure I get 8 hours
  • eat at the same time every day

In reality I’m rubbish at any kind of routine but I’m trying to do this.

Exercise daily
Less screen time
Less carbs
Go to bed on time

I've done this before and looked and felt so much better, I don't know why I can't stick to it as a way of life.

As it is I minimise carbs for weeks. Then will have normal portion of carbs as I've been 'so good' then that's it, I'm off. Carb fiend.

I'd probably eat DP & DCs with salt & pepper on if they stood still long enough

bibbity I hope you’re okay.

My list was what I try to do, even though I used “you.”

Not sure why my taking stairs leads to suggested reading comprehension. Hmm

Eat fewer sweet things.

Eat smaller portions at mealtimes.

Actually get a bike and learn to ride on streets.

Singleandproud · 13/03/2019 22:25

Walk more, since learning to drive Ive put on a considerable amount of weight.
Exercise
Go to bed at a reasonable time - hard as Im both a teacher and studying an OU degree.
Drink more water
Downsize portions - Small ice cream from the beach, kiddies cones of chips etc not "going large" on any food or drinks. I did this before and actually a kiddies portion is often more than enough.

bibbity - Just as an aside. Many herbal sleeping pills contain Valerian. This, if taken everyday, can cause liver failure so make sure you check yours!

Eat less treats, drink less wine, do more exercise.

Usual obvious stuff that totally eludes me.
