Black Friday tips and advice for a novice please!

I’ve never really had the need or paid much attention to Black Friday before, however this year I’m in the market for a new TV and also a family laptop.

Where do I start?

I’d rather shop online I think, rather than getting up at the crack of dawn and facing hordes of people fighting over stuff in shops.

Someone suggested shopping online before the actual day and putting items in my basket in advance. But will the discount be automatically applied when I go to checkout on the day?
Is it better to have a specific make/model in mind or just shop around to get the best deal on the day (which may take time)?

Do you pick a store and stick to it (ie Argos, PC World) or is there time to shop around and compare?

I’m worried I’ll get a bit panicked and overwhelmed on the day and end up not getting the best deal.

Any tips?

Research exactly what you are wanting in advance and find a few different models as not all will be included then on the day put your required item into Google shop.
Recommend to start looking start of November as retailers have been doing black November recently!

Don’t bother
Research shows that a lot of things actually aren’t any cheaper on that day and in some cases prices go up.
Don’t get carried away and buy things you don’t really want just because they are supposedly discounted.

I won’t get carried away and buy items I don’t want (can’t afford to!)
We need a family laptop, mainly for DS as he is starting his GCSE’s and also a TV for the front room as ours is really on its last legs.

Plan in advance what you actually want to buy. Do all your research in advance.

Start following retailers and manufacturers on social media to hear about the best deals first.

And yes, it's true that some retailers start their discounts the day before, or even the week before. That's why your should follow them on social media. But have your list prepared and bookmarked in advance so you can get in there, find the item and pay straight away on the day.

Amazon do "Black Friday" over several days - it's worth looking at their deals, but as people have said - do you research in advance so you know what you're interested in

I see people coming out of our local Sainsbury with huge tellys in their trolleys - a brand I have never seen before or indeed ever again.

D'you not fancy the 3am scrum , barging into the local store and sprawling yourself inelegantly on a 57" 4K HD TV then Grin
