How long will it take to get electronic items back from the police?

Police seized all electronic items on the 1st October, I guess it's not really relevant why. But now I've been penalised by UC credit as we/I/my partner haven't spent enough hours job searching. We have lost £300, I am sat in tears. We have 3 children to feed. I'm so beyond stressed, I asked the police how long it'd take and have been told 6m to a year 😭 but is that realistic? So we are pretty much going to be penalised every month for the next year 😭
