Christmas Pudding. Do you make them in advance??

Can I make Christmas pudding well in advance like I do the cake or do they have to be made nearer to the time?

I've never made one before but could probably manage one in advance. Actually looking forward to trying

Nearer the time and I'll have to buy one instead...

My aunt always makes hers now, maybe even before now, definitely in advance

Hate christmas pudding but used to love going to her house when she was boiling them in 'rags', love the smell

Excellent news

Christmas cake went in the oven a few minutes ago so I shall get some ingredients for the pudding next time I do a shop. I have a couple of pudding basins from buying posh puds that came in them for the past few years..

Trying to get it all done now as baby Snitch is due to arrive sometime around the 20th December and I doubt I'll be awake enough to do much with a newborn and will have a c-section wound to boot!

So, someone suggested Rachel Allen's recipe to me..here Does that look good or does someone have an even better recipe - bearing in mind I'll be trying to avoid too much alcohol and nuts while BF-ing...

Make mine in August (sch hols) every year - They are sitting nicely maturing in the garage ... mmmmmmmmmmm.....
Always make cake in Oct half term and feed weekly till I decorate christmas week x

I have the stuff out in the kitchen for four cakes, and assembled plum brandy today to strain and give to my sister; looked nice so might make us some as well.

Puds in a week or two I think.
Get the cakes done first LOL
