I hate xmas, always have. I'm menopausal for a start so I need to rest on my days off and xmas is just one long rushing about spend fest.
My adult son and I if left to our own devices are happy to ignore the whole thing and spend the day in our respective homes doing nothing but hobbies or relaxing.
i work super hard in the NHS full time and for me xmas is my only chance to relax and recharge but my family have other ideas, it's ok for them they are well off and don't work, both siblings SAHMs with much older kids and parents retired young on a big pension.
I am expected to travel 300 miles down there - nobody ever visits me at home and spend a minimum of 100 on 10 people.
I just can't can't do it this year, i'm divorced, have just moved, downsized and I have no more than £20 to spend on gifts for each person which I'm sending by post as I'm too tired and emotionally exhausted to go anywhere and I have a sick pet I can't leave.
Naturally they won't have my pet in their house over the xmas period because they don't like animals so I'm not going.
Is there really anything nice I can get for £20. I'm stumped.
I did think of maybe getting one really nice xmas decoration for the adults to keep for each year, I'll just give the kids money, they'd rather buy their own stuff.
But I know this is going to lead to recriminations about me being cheap. What can I get?

Are all your nieces and nephews adults? If they are I would either say you aren’t doing gifts this year and don’t expect to receive any. Or order hampers per family and have them sent direct to each household.

What about this hamper? Free delivery to their home - just send a card explaining that you are unable to attend this year but please enjoy this or something.

Save yourself some money and hassle and order a family hamper or big box of fancy chocolates to be delivered to either each sibling household or the one that hosts everyone. It sounds like your nieces and nephews are adults now? I won’t be buying individual gifts for the DNs when they’re adults.

You’re not going there and they’re not bothered travelling to you so whatever they think about it you don’t need to care! If they dare accuse you of being cheap then point out your completely different circumstances and tell them you’re no longer doing the gift thing.

If you all usually buy individual gifts for each other I would let your siblings know now that you’re not doing that, in case they’re buying for you, and ask them to let their dc know too.

I would order them all a book each (delivered to their address so avoiding postage charges), and a big box of chocolates to share on the day.

Waterstones have some great recommendations and you can always look on amazon or the book people to see if cheaper on other sites.
