Telescope for 5 year old - recommendations

We have decided to buy ds a telescope for christmas but I am not sure which one to get, there seems to be quite a few on the market.
I would also like a book to go with it that maybe guides him on where to look and what he might see, star formations etc.

Has anyone got any recommendations at all?

The eye spy series of books are great - they're only a few pounds, and they give points for each thing spotted. There's a night sky one.

Mine is a Skylux, very good, but, it would depend on what you want him to do with it, ie, frequent use and photos? Or just stargazing every so often,

Whatever you do, Avoid the discovery one, useless, absolutely useless.

On a side note, if you are going to attempt to take shots of what your DS sees, have the red eye reduction removed from your camera, it makes the colours pop and doesn’t dim the photos down.

We got ds9 couple of years ago a adults beginner one. We need to help him to operate it but the quality is very good.

We signed up him in local astronomy club where he has been going last couple of years. He really enjoys it and complements the telescope.

Thank you, i would like it to be frequent use and something for him to be interested in on a daily basis which is why i wanted to get him a book to go with it as i felt this would help him explore.
Will do some research into Skylux and thank you for the tip on avoiding the discovery ones.

Its finding the right balance, we havent discussed a budget yet, we don't want to spend £££ for him to be bored after 1 week but equally we don't want to spend much less and end up with a telescope he can't see out of or see things clearly and get bored.

Ooh following! I said to dh I'm getting ds one for his 6th birthday in Jan.

He is totally obsessed looking at the moon and stars.

I think things telescopes and microscopes are difficult - we bought DS a microscope and it's rubbish. But proper ones are £££.
