Are "real" elf on the shelf worth the extra?

Thinking about doing elf on the shelf this year for a bit of fun. Last year I bought a teddy elf for £1-£2 but wondering whether its worth spending the £20 for the original one. I found it difficult to get our teddy elf to do anything as it was quite stiff and large so thinking the real one may be better but is it worth it?

Waitrose do some lovely elves with Velcro arms to help you attach it to things. Personally I wouldn't have wanted to get the original as it looks creepy as hell.
