Colour blind Christmas

I recently found out my son is red/green colourblind. However it's not just red and green, pink and grey/gold and silver look the same. Also browns and purples merge. So I am looking to buy some blue Christmas decorations. Has anyone seen any packs of blue baubles/ other decorations? I have seen lots of individual blue decorations but I'll spend a fortune if I buy them as they are £3+ each. If anyone has seen them and could let me know the shop, I can go and have a look. Argos have some cheap and cheerful blue, white and silver ones.

He will also be able to see green and yellow clearly, so a white, green and gold theme might work?

Thankyou! Those blue ones are great. I will get ordering. I hadn't thought about white as I was thinking about bright colours but some sparkly white ones would be really good.

Elisheva - he can't see green and I'm not sure why but gold and silver look the same to him so I can't figure out if they just look like a really dull grey/yellow or if they are bright to him. I suppose as he gets older he may be able to tell me a bit more about it. But White will be great so maybe a blue and white theme!

My eldest can't distinguish between green and grey/silver and has to concentrate to tell me if something is red or green. He has always loved the Christmas tree, the sparkly lights, the random tat we throw on it, the angel he made for the top. ..

Ah thankyou Green that is so nice to hear that your son loves the tree irrespective of colour. I will follow your lead and maybe let my son choose some new decorations whatever colour they may be.

Red/green colourblind normally means they can't see red, and therefore can't distinguish between red and green. If he can see blue and yellow then he will be able to see green.

I think for him red and green look the same going by the opticians test but he has never had any problems identifying blue and yellow - except for fluorescent yellow, or turquoise, I assume because they have an element of green. Although saying that he confuses very dark blue and purple sometimes. He is only 4 so we are still figuring it out. All I can do is look at the online pictures to try and figure out what he can see compared to what I can see and I thought blue would be safe.

DP is colourblind, and even with the colours he can distinguish, he doesn't really notice the colour. So if you want it to look good, I'd not really worry too much about the colour, but imagine your tree as a black and white photo. So pale colours that will stand out against the dark green, and sparkle to catch the lights, and dark/light patterns, and appeal to other senses with jingling bells and interesting textures and things that smell nice.

My DS is colourblind, he can't distinguish purple/brown/navy either, he likes yellow, green and blue. I make sure the wrapping paper I use for him is one he will find attractive. Dark/bright contrast and lots of glitter is the way to go!

DH is colourblind, incredibly so. Three years in he asked me why I wore so many brown or purple coloured tops (can't distinguish green/red or blue/red)... he loves our Christmas tree and decorations and gets really in to decorating the house but has no idea what colour they are (red, green and gold). Don't worry about it too much...
It used to bother me and upset me that he couldn't see what I saw in a sunset/painting/photo but suddenly I realised one day that what he saw was still beautiful to him, and that's all that matters :)
