Kids magazine subscription ideas

Hi

I'm thinking of getting magazine subscriptions for a 5 yr old girl & 6 yr old boy for Christmas.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

So far I've been considering 'whizz pop bang' and national geographic kids but am clueless as to what else there is that's actually any good?!

Thanks!

Aquila is good for inquisitive minds.

I think Aquila would be a bit old for 5 and 6, iirc it's aimed at 8-12 and it doesn't dumb down, I can't do half the maths puzzles in it.

You could sign them up a junior members of the RSPB, with that they get a wildlife magazine every two months and there's one for younger children and one for older ones.

I like the look of Aquila and am very tempted but did wonder if it might be a bit much for my 9 year old, he hates reading anyway so don't want to put him off.

Think we're going with National Geographic Kids. Heard loads of fab reviews about it

TinkyDinks my 8 year old reads it and finds it ok. Some articles have a lot of text but things like the experiments and fact pages are ok.

Once they get chatting about it at school they start to read the longer text. I have to keep every one of them 'just in case' something is taught at school that's already been glanced at in the magazine.

We subscribe to National geographic Kids. DS8 and DD4 seem to love it. Very reasonable too as can often get offers for an annual sub.

The Phoenix is a hit with my kids (9 and 12, we've been getting it for a couple of years), perhaps for a little older than 5/6 though. It's a comic with stories including some that run on from week to week, no advertising. Might be a good option for reluctant readers too. You can order online, subscription is about £8 a month.

Would also agree with those suggesting National Geographic Kids. That's the one my 9 year old will go for if she's choosing in the shops (if there isn't a new Minecraft magazine, that is!)

We get The Week, it's a little newspaper for kids with stuff that's happened around the world in it.
