I started a thread a little while ago about this, and thought it might be helpful if we had a list that everyone can add to as there is probably tons I have forgotten, and I'm sure others are in the same boat!

every week when I do my online Tesco shop, I click on 'this weeks offers' and see if anything on my list is reduced Xmas Grin

Here's my list, it's very haphazard as I add to it everytime I think of something new...

Tin of chocolate x 4
Chocolate orange x4
Matchmakers x 2
After Eights x2
Cranberry Sauce
Pringles
Nuts
Chutney/s
Prosecco
Red Wine
White Wine
Lager
Christmas Pudding
Kids Drinks
Cheese biscuits
Tango (apple/orange)
Custard
extra large tin foil
Roasting trays
Coke (diet/full/cherry)
Fruit juices
Gin
Tonic
Goose Fat
Wholegrain mustard
Fairy Liquid
Nutella
Bin Liners
Bin Bags
Handwash
Bleach
New Tea towels
Stock
Antibac spray
Dish-cloths
Kitchen Paper
Loo Roll
Champagne
Lemonade
Lilt/7up
J20s

Reading back through it, it really is very unorganised...! Please add your lists so we can create a master list! When I get to my laptop I will try to update with the comments from my last thread.

Tea and coffee! And nice biscuits

Report

But.. You buy new tea towels for Xmas?? Why?

We never buy biscuits or chocolate as usually a few people buy us some anyway, so we would end up with way too much otherwise

Oh oranges. To go in mulled wine!

Can't believe I forgot tea and coffee!

Tea towels Is kind of a long story.... Basically every time my mum comes to my house and helps with the dishes etc she complains we never have enough tea towels ( we have about 5 always at least three not in the wash...) this has been going on about five years so this year I am investing in extra tea towels purely so she cannot whinge. Also I don't have a dishwasher...

I'm not hosting any meals this year, but there are a few things we like to do in the Christmas week.

I shall be buying (over the next few months)

Mincemeat.
Ingredients for my Christmas cake.
3 tubs of chocs (gifts)
Choc oranges/matchmakers (teacher gifts)
Mulled wine
Baileys
Fruity cider (DH)
Small turkey crown as I do a roast a few days after Christmas so we still have leftovers. I love a Christmas dinner sandwich.

Then I will do a buffet tea at new year's eve so will want to stock the freezer with party food and buy cheese and crackers and the ingredients for my baileys cheesecake and the carrot cake.

I'd be similar to you op. Need peanuts, mince pies, Baileys, Brandy (to pour over Christmas Pud) and Port on top too.

Great list Xmas Smile

I bought lemons and limes to slice and freeze for drinks and cornflour for the roast potatoes this week.

If I buy Baileys too early it tends to disappear...

Oooh I saw some mint Matchmakers for £1 in Tesco, bought some and gave them to DS he went.

I have bought -

J2O (party bottles , special offer in Costco)
Tin of teabags (only because the Gruffalo was on the tin)
Huge bag of caster sugar (Costco) for cakes.

Over the next few weeks, I'll make and store away the cake and pudding.
Buy coffee (that's at most risk from me)

Loo roll/Kitchen towels in Christmas pattern and plain
Binbags

Christmas handtowels for the bathroom and cloakroom

I have last years half bottle of Amarretto

I have lists. Lists and lists.

Food lists (Costco/Sainsburys/Waitrose/Greggs)

Random items that I pick up when I see them or look online for

I tend to do a big restock of the kitchen and cleaning cupboards anyway in the autumn, as well as buying ahead for Christmas. So my lists are odd:

Extras for Christmas:
Biscuits (quite a few mixed packets – no tins)
Crackers (at least 3 types)
Large sharing packets of crisps
Breadsticks
Bisto gravy powder
Hot chocolate (Cadbury’s powder and Butler’s chocolate blocks types)
Mini marshmallows
Barry’s teabags
Ground coffee (something nice for lazy mornings)
Ikea moose pasta (looks like Reindeers)
After eights
Goose fat
Cinnamon sticks, star anise, whole cloves, peppercorns, sea salt
Dried sage, dried thyme, dried basil
Wine (red & white, & prosecco) and beer (including a few Christmas beers for DH)
Gin
Slimline tonic, coke, 7up, fizzy orange
Sparkling water
LARGE can squirty cream (mostly for DD hot chocs or my French coffees)
Kitchen towels
Toilet rolls
Matches
Cleaning stuff – washup liquid, dishwasher tablets, laundry stuff, household cleaning stuff, bleach, bin liners (black and compost)
Candles – nightlights, dinner candles, 1 fat red Christmas candle, birthday candles for DD
Batteries - AA, AAA, C, D, square and CR2032 (clocks)

Extras for pre-Christmas baking etc:
Flour (cream, self raising, corn)
Dried fruit (currants, sultanas, raisins, candied peel, cherries, apricots, figs)
Baking Powder
Sugar (castor, dark brown, icing, granulated)
Decorative elements – colours, sprinkles etc
Mixed spice, ground cinnamon, ground ginger
70% chocolate in LARGE bars
Chocolate chips
Unsalted butter

Autumn cupboard restock:
Tinned tomatoes (chopped, whole plum, and with added herbs)
Tomato puree (tins and a tube)
Coconut milk
Kidney beans
Sweetcorn
Tuna in oil and in brine
Pasta (spaghetti, lasagne sheets, penne, shells)
Rice (easicook, basmati, pearl)
Couscous
Salsa (mild and hot)
Jars tomato sauce (with chilli, with roasted veggies)
Jars curry sauce (tikka masala, butter chicken, korma, jalfrezi)
Packets Chinese sauce (chow mein, sweet’n’sour)
Fajita mix
Stew/casseroles mixes
Soups – chicken noodle, condensed chicken, condensed tomato, chowder
Tinned fruit – peaches, pears
Custard – powder, tubs ready made
Herbs & spices restock if needed (whole extra list of its own)

Last couple of weeks:
Ready to roll croissants (at least 2 tins)
Ready to roll pain au chocolate
Real butter
Cheese
Smoked salmon
Eggs
Citrus fruits – lemons, limes, grapefruit, oranges
Mince pies
Ready made pastry (I dream about making my own – but time and ability are usually both against me)
Ice cream
Frozen Yorkshire puddings
Potatoes
Carrots, parsnips, onions, garlic

And then I have the final big shop for meat and perishables.

Pretty kitchen roll
Extra dish washer tabs
Limes and peanut butter for bang bang turkey leftovers yes yes a Tesco recipe but omg is AMAZE
A big ham for cola ham
Beer
Vino
Elderflower bubbly and Appletiser
Nuts
Etc

*they are lovely lovely people but urgh. Wish they would let us "help". God love them.

BiddyPop That is a lovely list...but who is Barry and why have you taken his Tea Bags?? Grin

Report
BiddyPop · 29/09/2015 14:31

Barry is my DBro

However the Barry family are also the best tea blenders in Ireland - a Cork based family. All self-respecting people with a Cork heritage drink Barrys is it is FAR better than those Lyons wans who are Dublin based.

And it HAS to be Gold Blend (in the red box - red for the Cork Rebels!!).

They do lovely Christmas ads - all about the soft whistle of a train, and the memories it evokes.....

Some time in October I will buy:

Dried fruit and nuts
Mincemeat
Flour & sugar
Spices
Royal icing sugar
Marzipan
Suet

Then these will all be in the cupboard ready for whenever I have the time to bAke the cake and make the pudding. Don't need the marzipan or icing until December but I like to stock up so that I don't have any last minute panics.

In November I will buy:

Biscuits (savoury and cheese)
Spirits (we save up our nectar points specially for this - always our favourite food shop of the year and best done before things get too hectic)
Foil, foil baking trays - stock up early so we don't have to worry.
Sweets and chocolates for stockings.
Goose fat and chestnuts
Anything else non-perishable that I worry will run out before Christmas!

I'll start doubling up on things like kitchen roll and loo cleaner so that I don't have to buy anything of this sort close to Christmas. Good opportunity to buy the festive versions

Early December I will aim to have a meal plan for the whole month and do a big shop to get all the non- perishables and ingredients for anything that can be made ahead.

Weeks two and three will be small frequent top up shops for meat and veg - ideally that can be brought home without the car - freeing up time for parties and present shopping.

Then one last big shop for Turkey, bread, vegetables, dairy and cheese on Christmas Eve.

I'm very organised with food plans and shopping lists so don't get too hung up on getting loads of things early. My biggest fear is supermarkets running out of things when I need them - So I buy things I know I'm going to need when I first see them.

Ooh I need to get a shelf in the pantry cleared for Christmas Stock. (I have bought chestnuts so I don't want to be searching on Christmas Eve for them)

plastic ham and lurid cheese sounds like my PIL too.
Really nasty jam that'd like a strawberry jelly (nearest thing to fruit is the picture on the label)

YY to taking some nice things to share/eat in front of them depending on how you feel Xmas Wink
