I'm doing a local shoebox appeal this Christmas for a 10 year old girl. However, I'm not quite sure of what to get, I was thinking of sweets loom bands and hair clips but don't know what to get other than that. Any ideas?

Notebook, pencils, rubber, pencil sharpener etc.

Waterbottle.

Pack of cards.

Key ring.

Jewellery.

Hat/gloves/scarf.

The ones that go abroad usually ask you to put in soap, toothbrush and tooth paste but I don't know if they say the same for boxes to be delivered in this country.

Is it for Operation Christmas child or Samaritans purse? If so, be wary because of they have a very over zealous missionary element to the whole campaign. There are more knowledgable people on here who know more about these organisations than I do.

You are often not allowed to send liquids, so things like bottles of bubbles and bubble bath are ruled out.

DD packed a lot of boxes in the summer as part of the Challenge, and she said that the only sweets which were allowed were boiled sweets which were individually wrapped. So, no chocolate or soft sweets such as Haribo.

I'm sure there will be guidelines you can check with. DD did them many years ago at primary, and chocolate wasn't banned then!

MsAsprey - The OP said it was a local thing specifically for a ten-year old girl. Why does this have to turn into yet another Operation Christmas child bashing thread? Especially if you yourself do not know much about them. Have you spoken to anyone who works for them or has helped local churches abroad distribute the boxes? If not, then perhaps best not to criticize.
