What games console for a 7 and 9 year old?

They've wanted one for ages, and I think I'm going to bite the bullet this year and buy them one. My DS would love Skylanders so I was thinking some kind of bundle that includes them possibly? Is the Wii any good or is going to be obsolete soon because of the Wii U?

it wont be obsolute, so the wii is still a good idea.

all console do bundle, esp with skylander/disny thing.

the xbox will be cheaper soon as the xbox one comes out soon.

i would go with a xbox or wii, but which one you get i ma sure they will lvoe it!

DS has an old Wii that is worth about £30 on eBay now If your DCs are not too aware of what is new and what everyone else is playing then that's a really cheap alternative as games are really cheap as well and there's a huge back catalogue.
The WiiU is really good for younger kids. My ds is 9 and has recently moved to middle school where the xbox and PS3 are the consoles of choice. My only issue is that the xbox games are a lot "older" in general and I am aware that DS won't have such a huge range to choose from as with the Wii.
Personally we are going for the new xbox as it will hopefully last enough years he can buy the next one himself :o

Thanks both. DD (the 9 year old) isn't actually too bothered by what others have so I think we can get away with a Wii. I think we'll go for that for now!

Great idea, just be aware that it's life will be limited once your eldest starts mixing with older kids :o

To be honest, the eldest isn't bothered about games consoles at all really, although she'd play one if we got one. It's the 7 year old who has desperately wanted one for a couple of years. My plan is to get a console between all three of my kids (I have a little one too) and get him the Skylanders Swap Force game and a cheap game each for the girls to play.
So, hopefully it'll be a few years before we get requests for something more sophisticated!

We had a Wii when the dcs were that age. Two years later my dsis bought them an xbox and the Wii collected dust. Therefore I'd go for the Xbox or ps3 as they are both bound to have some great deals on with the games as well as consoles with the launch of their new models.
