Stunt Scooter

Wondered if anyone could offer any advice ds(9) and ds(5) have started to go to the local scooter park to do stunts and I would like to replace their dying scooters for Christmas. Having a look there are so many brands out there don't really know where to start. I am looking to spend 70ish.

Bit more info needed. Do you mean £70 each or together. I think if the 9 yr old is keen you maybe looking to spend at least £50 on that alone.

Our local skate park, don't encourage under 8's on scooters due to risks of injury, however I feel the 5 yr old will probably still be OK with the cheaper £10-£20 scooters form Argos, Halfords or supermarkets etc.

Few ideas, we are coming to the end of 2012, so like all fashionable things the current scooters are being sold off cheap to make way for the 2013 range. Kids are fickle and they want the next best thing, or improved scooter, so local ads may offer good second-hand scooters for sale.
Don't worry too much about brand names, scooters are pretty much the same quality, although personally I would steer away from Razor.
Two other things to consider, with the bigger lad, is don't let them get into the "my mates got new bars, so I must have them" routine, and if your children develop a keen skill and passion for scootering you will need to replace consumables, such as bearings, handle bar grips, grip tape (on the deck}.

Thank you for replying. I was thinking of £70 each. Interesting about the Razor as that was one of the brands I was looking at. Another make I have heard on here is the jd bug are they worth looking at?

Decathlon's. own brand have great reviews and have a 2 year guarantee.
My 10 yo knocks his about something terrible and it has not let him down in a year. Yu can get a decent one for £50

I was in your shoes last year.
The popular brands like MGP were priciest. 200 quid!! And Razor and JD were considered too young by my older kid. That's a shame as I often see deals on Jd Bug Pro.
I went to the local scooter shop and talked about how much it would cost to upgrade the boys JD Bug Originals to stunt scooter specs but it was as much as a new one so I bought new.
I was told that the best stunt scooters are pole deck. That means the handlebar and deck are one piece of metal and don't have a foldable hinge. The ones that are foldable rattle and are not as strong as a poke deck scooter. You can get triple/quadruple clamps to improve the strength of a foldable scooter but they will be weaker.
I went for an unknown brand with stunt scooter specs. I bought 2 Toxic scooters for your budget last Christmas. They are all black with coloured wheels.

Last year ds1 got a blazer for that price. I notice this year they are about 55. I've just ordered him a new one as to customise his old one was going to cost another 70! So he is getting a crisp one. Got it for less than half price at 119...

Hi thank you both for replying. I have seen a jd bug pro extreme for 60 so I am considering that. Will Definately make sure I get a pole deck, thanks for that tip. Where have you seen them for that price cede?

My son Charlie is 10 - he's had scooters and has got bored with them. He's seen an article in the local paper on something called the ATK All Terrain Kart. A friend of his at school tried one at a local adventure park and said it was amazing, so he's constantly going on about it now. Has anyone else seen this (or even heard of it)? Where can you buy them?

ATK All Terrain Kart on Amazon at £195 for a fancy push kart with a rope to steer. Doesn't even have pedals!

Don't like the last picture with the dc balancing precariously on his knees and trying to steer with the rope at the same time, how's he meant to apply the brake in that postition!

Maybe good in the right environment and dare devil dc's, but think I'll stick with a scooter for ds, don't need a hill for it!

One thing i would say is look to see if his friends all have one aprticular type of stunt scooter. I saw a bargain Slamm scooter in the summer, showed it to DS2 but it was the 'wrong' one, he really wanted MGP (madd gear pro), He got the one he wanted and is happy as its the same make s all of his friends.

I ecommended the MGP to my frind for her son as she was looking to buy one, but at the school he went to it is all JD Bugg scooters.

I know we shouldnt give into oh so and so has xyz, but for some 9,10 year olds it really does matter.

My ds has a slamm scooter it's a couple of year old and still going strong after going to the skate park, being dragged along kerbs and other silly stunts, def recommend them. Have just bought ds2 a jd bug from toysr us, it was reduced to £50 from £100.

Hi Peeps.

Does anyone else find that there kids go through the wheels on there scooters really fast?

I purchased a JD Bug for my son but as soon as he started going to the park his wheels wouldn't last long at all! Maybe a few weeks tops during the summer holidays when he was there all the time!

Most of the shops sell a pair of wheels for around 30 - 40 pounds which soon adds up to more then price of the whole scooter when you are changing them all the time!

After searching around I did manage to find some very good wheels on a website called attackscooters

They have quite a lot of different colours and they seem to be just as good quality as all the other, more expensive wheels i've paid out for.

Just thought I'd share this with you all as It has saved me quite a bit of money this summer.

Thank you all for your replies. New wheels for £40 ouch. I will go through all of your links. I have had a look at the local skate Park but can't work out what make they are on to be honest they are a bit battered, obviously well loved
